Dug a beautiful semi-key date Indian head cent this morning

After digging a couple wasted indian head cents over the weekend I thought I would hit another park where the soil is very kind to coppers in hopes of digging a nice indian head cent or two. Wasn't disappointed when I dug a beautiful 1873 Indian head cent this morning. Didn't even realize it was a good date and only noticed when I removed it from it's peroxide bath. Also dug an 1898 indian head that didn't clean up quite as well. Wheat cents were popping up all over and I dug about a dozen dating from teens to early '20's. I have to look a little closer to determine if the 1873 is the open or closed 3 variety and there is also a variety with doubled "LIBERTY". The soil in this park is a nice sandy glacial deposit that doesn't hold the water at all. Most of my nicest indian head cents have been dug there. Now if I could only find an 1877 there !!! Did a quick check on my "coins found" spreadsheet the these two indian heads bring my career total dug to 801 !! I'm still lacking 1866, 1870, 1877 and 1908-S & 1909-S to complete the full set !!!

WOW.... That coin is in beautiful shape.. I wish my coppers in my area would come out looking like that ..

Pretty Indian, Ed. I have dug a few that looked pretty good, and they came from well-drained sites also. Congrats.
