Dues update dying down

It seems if your a gold hunter the new update and coil and pin pointer are going to be great. I was thinking at the rally in England you would think there would be a lot of testing on some of the update changes but they have to still test it...The pin pointer seems kind of cool but for us that us our hands and coil or another companies pin pointer is it worth buying another one? I would think if you can put the nose of the pin pointer to the dirt and get a good six inches in bad dirt I would be sold but so far nothing shows that. I think the dues is a great unit I'll be keeping mine but I was hoping for a update that would really solve some of the needs we have. But we will have to wait and see just like everything and then read what the update can do with the standard coil. It is an almost perfect machine if you understand it.

My thoughts as well on the update. Some nice features to have but is it worth the $$??? I hunt some very bad ground twice a year. Will the upgraded coil accurately ID targets deeper than a few inches. The pulse machines are superior in depth but ID capability is limited. The new coil will be expensive but a nice feature if it can accurately ID targets at depth. Something the Deus doesn't do well at presently.

It is great to see that the dues can be used in many ways. Now for gold hunting..but I guess they didn't want to or couldn't find a way to add more for the relic hunters. No one is really doing anything new our hobby is tweaks so back to just digging everything the deus can see....

Now this is just my opinion, but from my use of the Deus I'd say it only was lacking in the prospecting potential. I mean I use my Deus as a relic machine and I've never owned a better one. I use my Deus for coin shooting, and although the target ID could be a bit better, it kicks butt as a coinshooter. No beaches in Kansas so I can't comment on the Deus ability at the beach, but I hunt a lot of tot lots and it is second to none in my experience. How many other great all-purpose detectors can do 55 kHz?

If it can handle bad ground a little better and/or ID big iron better I'll be happy. Thats a worthy upgrade to me.

A lot of grousing from people that expected the world and then are upset that everything did not come out at the rally . . . XP was just as disappointed in the fact that they found an issue at the 23rd hour but holding it back was the right thing to do.

The complaint that the update is focused on gold prospecting should be tempered with the fact that despite what many people think here in the US, the US market is a drop in the bucket when it comes to worldwide sales and while XP would love to make a detector that does it all, there are limitations and the sales worldwide is what drives the updates. In fact there are two distributors in France that each sell more than what is sold in the entire US . . .so numbers drive development. XP could have simply released a Deus II and sold an entirely new detector . . . do you think that Minelab would provide a free software update to revise the CTX 3030 or would they release a 3040 and sell a new detector . . . The Explorer family tells the answer to that question.

Before bashing the product that is not even out, let's allow XP to work out any kinks and then judge the performance. The comment that there was no feedback from hunters at the Rally is not quite accurate . . . the hunters that wee there do not hunt for the type of targets, in the type of conditions or look for the same type of responses that US hunters do so what feedback were you expecting? I tested teh coils and software while there but again, until I see what is actually in the final version of the software and how it performs in the ground we have here in the States, would my feedback even be relevant?

I tried posting some information when I was over there and was immediately blasted so at this point, waiting until the release is firmed up seems to be the smarter approach.

I guess you're damned if you do and damned if you don't at times.

I have used the Deus with 9" coil on gold here in OZ with some success, with v3.2 I rate it comparable in ground handling to any other VLF that operates at 19Hz I have used, with 50Hz without better ground handling it should be competitive, but if V4 has enhanced ground handling even further over V3.2 it will be dynamite. Saying this I use a GPZ7000 99% of the time for gold hunting, the Deus I only use in rubbish strewn ground to remove the rubbish and score the odd nugget, then it is time for the Zs deep gold ability. I look forward to V4 & the elliptical coil, it will make it a even better companion for the Z.
