Dual Processors Or Dual Core?

Ronk

Active member
I saw the circuit board that someone posted a while back on the G2 or GB and all I saw was 1 Processor and 1 what looked like to me a eprom or a similar memory chip. All the processors I have seen was Square...with all 4 sides being equal.Memory chips are usually rectangle in shape.Unless the other processor was on the other side of the board.Where on the board is the 2'nd processor? I have never seen Stacked processors before.Maybe it's Dual Core or maybe not...but so far all I saw was 1 processor. Not that it makes any difference,I would just like to know the location of the 2'nd processor. If the rectangle chip really was the 2'nd processor then that's the First time I have ever saw one like that.Even computer processors are Square and the RAM or memory chips are rectangle.

I just remembered...A processor has pins on all 4 sides of the square and most eprom memory chips have their pins on the 2 longer sides of the rectangle shape.I saw the pics again and all I saw was 1 Processor. My question still stands..Where is the 2'nd processor? Doesn't Dual mean 2?

They are both processors, I know as I read the specs on them, one is in the form of the old style 4 and 8 bit CPU's, the square one is in the form of the more compact modern form of 16 bit CPU's and so on.

Go to this link below for more details on the CPU's, these are the PIC family of CPU's of which 2 are used in the Gold Bug (Plain Jane, SE, Pro) and the G2.

You are probably right after thinking about it.When I heard or read where someone called them "Twin Processors" then I figured they would look identical. That's why I couldn't find 2 identical Processors on the board.I guess with that circuit design they didn't need to use 2 of the modern Processors. They accomplished their goal just fine with both types of chips.
Thanks for the Info!

NOT all processors are square....Unless your thinking of only computer processors....
They use other types of processors for different think and in control line model airpplanes they are using a pic type processor to turn on the electric motor/time it for how long to run and shut off. Just a different type of use for a chip that is still a processor.

i had a single processor computer just got a duel core and i can do things i couldn't do on the old one and all at the same time :clapping:
