Dual control dial on mxt Pro

victoryrider

New member
Hello, I am new to this site and need a little help. I bought a new Mxt pro metal detector and would like some information on the Dual control dial. I read the manual that came with the detector but I still don't understand the settings. Could someone explain what settings I should use and what they stand for. I want to get the best depth and and don't mind extra digging. I had a whites metal detector years ago and found a lot of coins and silver but this detector is totally different from the old whites that I had. Thanks for any help.

In both coin/jewelry & Relic modes the Dual Control only affects discrimination.

When the detector is used in the prospecting mode, the Dual Control affects the S.A.T. SPEED for gold nugget hunting.
This is the speed at which the machine detects the ground mineralization and ground balances to phase out the ground.

In coin/jewelry & Relic modes, the SAT is fixed and cannot be changed(fast tracking). It is adjustable while in Prospecting mode for serious nugget hunters because of the rapidly fluctuating ground mineralization common while prospecting. Also, if the ground mineralization is very low, you would rather the detector not update the ground so quickly as the threshold is much smoother if the S.A.T. is lower. If you are using the prospecting mode and set the S.A.T. control too high it will become unstable and jittery since it is trying to accommodate for mineralization too quickly. While in prospecting mode if you turn the S.A.T. control down low, it tracks the ground more on a slow average basis instead of updating rapidly.

If you are not using the prospecting mode, just ignore the S.A.T. function of the dual control. I assume you are not confused about the discrimination function of the dual control while in the coin/jewelry & Relic modes.

There is more to know about the S.A.T. control on the MXT but thats the just of it. This forum has some useful insight on the S.A.T. ability while in coin/jewelry and Relic modes. As it turns out, there are 2 fixed S.A.T. settings in the Relic Mode and only 1 fixed S.A.T. setting in coin/jewelry mode. If you have problems with EMI interference or lots of jittery noise then it would be worthwhile to look into using Relic Mode 2-tone as this sets the S.A.T. lower and smooths out the threshold. On the MXT (not the pro) this is accomplished by using Relic Mode with the trigger in the center position.

A copy of one post on that forum......
On the MXT in the coin and jewelery and relic mode the SAT speed is fixed.

Coin and jewelery normal position - Fast SAT
Coin and jewelery alternate position - Fast SAT

Relic normal position - Slow SAT <---------<<< trigger center (on the MXT PRO, this is done by using 2-tone while in prospecting mode)
Relic alternate position - Fast SAT<--------<<< Trigger forward

In the modes with the fast SAT the threshold is jittery (I know this is normal), the Relic normal mode which has a slow SAT is smoother.
