DTI Meter Vs Minelab meter readings

Probably one of thee stupider questions asked, but would thee meter readings for Sun Ray's old DTI's be essentially the same as a Minelab meter since they measure the same thing in the same Way?

I think maybe not. Most say using Noise Band 2 on the GT should match the mid portion numbers (nickles and such) of older Sovereigns which couldn't change the noise band. Supposedly using noise band 1 will increase the mid range numbers a bit. However, in doing my tests with my GT and DigiSearch meter I found that often my numbers were still higher than the old charts even using noise band 2. For that reason I constructed my own chart (posted in this forum). Whether the difference is due to different meters or the difference of a GT versus older Sovereigns even in noise band 2 is anybody's guess.

What I found by using these different 180 meters. The Sunrays,Minelab and Blackburn 180 meters are the same in the upper range from 180-173.The big difference is in the lower range.Example my Night Hawk would hit 150 on nickles and the Avenger a little lower. My brother used a newer Minelab 180 and I used a DT1 ll when we compared nickle signal we were close but off.My Sunray 142-143 brothers Minelab meter 144-145.I had the 180 meter on all Sovereign models with consistent readings the GT did have a little variation between band 1 and 2 in the lower level nickle range.Hope this helps.

Yes they would be the same if you are using a 180 meter not the 550. The difference i have seen is the rescaled or the new Minelab 180 meter is the numbers are more stable on deep targets making me believe the Sun Rays were more sensitive.
On the noise band switch Critterhunter mentioned on the GT where we see the difference in meter reading is only on the Nickle as in 2 it will read as same as the older Sovereigns with the 176-180 of a good target seem to stay the same in band 1 or 2, only nickles seem to be higher in band 1. Some of us feel that band 2 is where we run and using band 1 when hunting with another Sovereign close by or getting interference. There is a few of us that believe 1 you loose a little depth on the deeper targets is why we run in 2.

I have a SunRay DTI III on my Sovereign GT and I get Nickel readings of 144- 147 on Band 2 and I get a reading of 147-150 on Band 1 ...... It will read 180 on Quarters and will read a jumpy 179/180 on dimes .... It will also read a jumpy 179/180 on copper Pennies ... Jim
