I'm sure that there will be many different opinions on this subject.
For me it's the Minelab Sovereign.

Can you be a little more specific? Tell us what you want to do and where you live.
Give us some parameters - I'm certain there is a detector to suit your needs.

Ok,well there is an old trashy site I know of through old fire insurance maps from 1850's and later I suspect deep goodies I haven't found old coins yet....I did find a good VMI button....with ace 250...I have a whites bhid good for water or land but not deep enough for this....thanks for any info good luck hunting...

You mention trashy right off. If you hope to do well on deep targets there, you'll most likely need to clean out much of the trash first. Otherwise, no matter which machine you use, you'll need to use a small coil to slip thru the trash and won't get the depth. If you use a stock or larger coil that can give the depth, you'll run into masking and multiple targets under the coil giving mostly confusion and frustration. If you use heavy discrimination you may miss some serious goodies. These problems will be present on that type of site no matter what machine you choose. I really like my MXT with the 4X6 coil for heavy trash, but it won't give the depth needed for what you describe and the large coils won't handle heavy trash well although the depth is good. My two bits.
