Dry Ground and Hunting.. A hidden bonus for some

No way I am going to dig a plug with the ground this dry. I want to be welcome come rain in the Fall. But...I still hunt but only use a 8" probe and an Oyster knife to retrieve targets. It has been a blast. Here's the payoff for me so far. Since I know I can't go after the deep stuff I slow way down and really listen hard to what I am hearing as a game to see if I would have dug it had the ground been right. I am going over the same places I went when I could plug hunt and even with the ground dry, I am finding way too many diggers that I passed up before. I think hunting this way has forced me to search more thoroughly and accurately. Sometimes I can place the coil just right and I can imitate the old Minelab wiggle right over the target and some of the sounds are kind of flutey. I hope, I hope I hope!! Jim

We got over a inch of rain lastnight and the soil is in good shape but will dry fast as hot as it is.I can usualy find a few places in mid summer where the grass is completly dead and dig a little if it is not to hard of soil,Ray.
