Trying to get into shape to help out my arthritis.... and my digging.

So far I have lost 8 lbs.... :)

Of course I could eat a frog right now.... but eat to live... not live to eat.... sigh.....:look: I do love to eat.

Oh well..... gotta do what ya gotta do. The weight just creeps up on ya....

of course I know I'm the only lard bucket here... right?

tab magnet I have the other problem , I am to skinny, and I get low on energy , and just have to rest for a few days , but nothing burns calories like metal detecting , maybe swimming would be next

Hmmm... what a problem. I needs that problem. Energy bars and away I go.

I had what they call baker's knee on both knees. It's a fluid buildup that causes a small hard knot on the back of the knee. It has something to do with fluid drainage off the knee joint. At any rate, I had lots of trouble with it and once I started metal detecting it went away. Metal detecting is good exercise that's healthy for you and it does keep the weight down.

Tabmagnet,
you are already making positive changes and steps. Go easy on yourself bro. Congratulations on the 8lb loss! You are already doing more then what you did before right? I mean you picked up detecting and now you are moving around more. Focus on detecting and you will start to forget about eating. I remember several years back, I would eat around 8am in the morning and go detecting all day (maybe have a cold drink around noon) I would come home around 3-4 in the afternoon grab a quick bite to eat and then back out hunting again until 7-8pm. I dropped 28lbs doing that and this was over the course of 3 months.
Consistency is key but you also have to allow yourself 1 cheat meal per week. You have to reward yourself for a job well done each week. For me my one cheat meal of the week is usually on Friday for dinner.
For me that means dining out for buffalo chicken pizza!

I also want to add the following: Start researching places to metal detect. I love to research online and at the local library. When I find something that interests me, I will take a walk or get on my mountain bike and check the area out. This gets me out of the house to where I am exercising and working on a possible new hunting area! Best of luck! - Jim

I also have a small problem. My belly gets their before I do. I have stopped drinking pop. Went to gator aid. Trying to loose some weight also. Good luck to all of us... KEN

My advice is to give yourself one day a week or one meal a week where you can eat whatever you want.

You will find if you are good the rest of the time, even this binge meal/day will beceome more reasonable.

Life is too short to totally deprive yourself.

Congrats on the weight loss though!

Ken I buy my Gatorade in the powered form from Wal-mart. It's not in grocery, they keep it in sporting goods. One container makes 32 quarts. I get a little more, because I mix around 25% more water in mine. Doing that makes the mix go further and it also cuts down on calories. The power is just a faction of the cost of the premixed. I usually try to drink equal amounts of water and Gatorade. Too much Gatorade ain't good for you. I mix up a bunch and pour it into empty small coke and Gatorade plastic bottles. I throw a couple of Gatorades and waters with some ice in my little Igloo ice chest and I'm ready to go to face the Summer heat.

Earthly, I will keep on at it. A cheat meal sounds good.... I may just do that once in a while after I get my blood levels checked later this month. Dr. is giving me the going over. I have been on crutches basically for almost 3 years. I had surgery on my foot that went south and took a long time to heal where I could wear a shoe again. Of course the weight just piled on when you can't get out or around. I have limped so long I almost had to learn to walk normally again. So metal detecting is my treat as well. Will be good to get out again. I hope to be digging within a couple of weeks.

Ken, do you know what day this is? Do ya? Do you know what day this is. (Geico Camel commercial in background) No, it's not Wed/Humpday... today is the day I ordered Tesoro #2... the Compadre. Yep.... enroute as we speak.

Well, another day another donut... not.

My Compadre should be delivered tomorrow.

I have aquired a new pair of boots with 0 metal in them.... as hunting before it would always bug me when the coil came near my feet and scream about my metal eyelets and steel toes.

On the diet front I have dropped 1 size in jeans now... and have lost 12 lbs.

Steady as she goes, mate.

Dr.'s and diets- thats why I only go to fat doctors. They usually don't throw stones in glass houses!
