Im so Psyched right now as I may have a 3030 coming. I noticed on another post that there are some downloads for the ctx. Im wondering if all machines need to have these downloaded or if they come with the newer detectors or , I guess what are they and why?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Shovelhead

If your CTX is brand new it will have the latest software installed. When you get it, install the Exchange2 into your home computer and plug the CTX in the computer. If an update is needed you'll see an icon on the top of the screen. Click on that if it's there. Mine came with the new software updates. I think you'll be ok if it's new. Joe

Yes, all the updates will come thru the Exchange2 software.

If memory serves me correctly you. do not need to be signed in. You just need to download the exchange2 to your computer. With my age and seeing as though it has been so long since any updates I could be wrong.

Be sure to check out the 3030 Resource Center for some great info on the CTX. You can thank Digger and GateKeeper for collecting and compiling a great resource for everyone to use. Keep in mind that the programs that individuals have for their machines are adapted to their area and may have to be "tweaked" to work well with your particular soil and environment. If nothing else, it will give you a good idea on how you can customize a program to fit your needs and that of your surroundings to make the best of the machine.

It will take some time to learn the language of the CTX, but, once that is accomplished, you will have the best machine available to you!! Don't get discouraged, if the signal is questionable, dig it! Be sure to hit both axis, x and y and try to keep track of what you get with a particular signal. You will soon be on your way to knowing what it is telling you. Also, don't forget target trace......it will often lead you to a very worthwhile second or third target that would have gone unseen on other machines!

If you have questions, be sure to post them........lots of resident gurus on the CTX here and they are all willing to help!!

T.Y. I appreciate the tips and this forum rocks too, Yes Ive been watching a lot of vids and reading up on the stuff that is different from my E trac. Im sure there'll be learning curve but that hasn't stopped me before, I chuckle.

It doesn't look like the X-Change software is compatible with Mac yet. Is that true?
If not then I may be installing Windows via "Bootcamp" on mine. Or just drag out my old crappy W7 laptop.

yes not compatible, get windows 7 one way or the other

That's a bummer, thanks GK.

It's a very easy switch from E-Trac to CTX. The biggest problem is treating it like an E-Trac. Don't focus on just the upper numbers for silver, coin thickness plays a lot into VDI number. Very thin silver will come in 4 - 5 points lower and you will miss a lot if you concentrate on the CO 45 of the E-Trac silver.

Thank you, Jason, for mentioning the difference in VDI numbers based on coin thickness. I had been wondering about that after hitting some silver that indicated a lower conductivity than expected......I figured it was due to the positioning of the coin or nearby interference.

Yeah, just trying to help you avoid my mistakes! I spent my entire first month ignoring those low 40-s because I thought there was little chance of them being silver. The E-Trac nails silver ##s much better, but the CTX is deeper (for me anyway), it's more accurate in telling you there is a copper OR silver coin down there, especially near iron. The biggest love is the balance is SOOOO much better.
