Double Gilt Button

AT PRO sniffed this out of a Postenkill NY corn Field.My first time out and first dig ever.
Dose anyone know what type of button this is?

Sweet find man! I haven't been lucky enough to find any old buttons yet.....might be some deep old coins in this corn field just waiting to be reunited with this old button. Congrats!:drinking:
 
Sorry, I'm no button expert either, but that one looks like it's got some good age. It's a very nice first find! It looks to be a flat button dating back to at least the (mid to early?)19th century, some went back even further. Hopefully, someone knowledgeable will answer, otherwise, there are a number of sites that may help you, like http://pw1.netcom.com/~jimyce/bm.html for example. I couldn't make out the word below the 'double gilt' - if it's a mfg. name, you're in business - just Google on it and 'double gilt' and / or flat button. Otherwise, they get lumped into the category 'flat buttons'. :cheers:
 
:clap:Nice find. Those turn up often here but most all of them I find don't have a nice design like yours. Got two treble gilt last week that were toast from fertilizer.
