I had seen a couple older houses being rennovated for student housing and asked the work crew for an ok to detect. One of the houses I had detected years ago and didn't produce anything. The second house apparently had the yard filled in years ago to raise the level all around. The dirt wasn't original and the only targets were junk. The only good targets were in a smaller area near the edge of the fill, which boardered a steep drop-off.
I located two King George II coppers ( 1731, 1740? ) about three feet apart. They were each at a depth of 3-4 inches in rocky, rooty dirt. Also found two small flat buttons and a broken spoon. When I found the handle I thought for an instant that it was sterling. NOT ! Only plated, but it has a monogram. I located the other part about three feet away.
Thanks for sharing. Bruce
