Double barrel muzzle-loader

Found this double barrel a couple of weeks ago in the California Mother lode very close to one of the Immigrant trails with my trusty Gold Bug SE. It's a muzzle-loader, 31" long. Would like to clean it to find some ID but it's probably too far gone for that. I don't know how to clean it anyway. Any ideas will be appreciated. I did clean the dirt out of the barrels in hopes there was some gold hidden in them but there was not.
I have found many relics but never a double barrel muzzle-loader!

All the best

That is a great find and you will probably have to go the electrolysis route to get most of the rust off.

That's a rare item to find, congrats!

They were called swivel breach muzzleloaders and very cool gun . to own something like that you would have to have some serious money. i had the opportunity to have held some of those guns in my hands , I was taking a muzzleloader building class and these gun collectors brought some in to look at and study. Any way that is a great find and if your lucky there might be some type of mark on those barrels and with some good luck you might have enough to research it . Gunmakers used certain styles of building guns that can be distinquished from other gun makers and that might lead you to builder of the gun . There are lots of people out that still build muzzleloaders and the swivel breach muzzleloaders tha might be able to help you to find out who the builder was. Good Luck , Ezra.
