Dont you wish Minelab would make a Sovereign in a lite weight package.

My Gt is still going strong. But man I wish Minelab didn't abandon it and offer no new upgrade.

I just found a brand new GT, in the box, full warranty, For a great price. I'll be on the Calif. beaches when they cut this year. Grubstake

In a 705 package and waterproof. They didn't even have to include a screen. But they opted to go with the CTX and the cinder block weight. The Sovereign will go down in history as one of the best ever.

When sales and repairs drop they have to do something. These machines are tanks...... i mean how many do you need? They give us new machines to keep us buying....... and with a Sov its hard to encourage us to do that. Same way with the Explorer. These two machine are hard to beat and rarely needed repairs. Even now those that have a CTX still have one of these in their closet. I do agree id like to see something the size of a Deus now there isnt any reason all machines cant be reduced in size and waterproofed. Like ive been saying....... one of these days we will just have apps on our IPhones and a coil to plug in.

It would be nice if the GT were a bit lighter.I have started using a support to carry part of the weight. My Excal is in the repair shop waiting its turn on the bench. So My GT is having to do double duty. Beach and Dirt both. Spent about 7 hours at the beach today. A few dollars in clad and one junk ear ring were all that I found.

If my GT ever quits oh me I have a spare just waiting its turn to perform. The two of them should still be going strong when I quit going strong.

I think most of us Sovereign users and lovers have a spare just in case that horrible day day ever happens when the one we are using quits working.

I would buy two if they built a Sov GT-XT that is a Sov GT in an X-terra body. OH MAN would that be a lightweight BBS dream machine....please o' please Minelab make our dreams come true.....:detecting:

The Sovereign could be lighter, but is balanced very well.I have always enjoyed using a Explorer but have found this detector not as comfortable as the Sovereign to swing for an extended period of time.Using the 800 coil will help with the weight, and removing the S-1 probe. The Sovereign would probably be a much different detector if the guts were reduced to a X-Terra or Tesoro and end up with different performance characteristics.

I hip mount mine & use Ron's meter. I also use it in conjunction with the Xterra 705 Gold. These are great companions & can handle all my dirt or beach detecting needs.

The new detector that Deteknix is coming out with, is kind of how I envisioned a new Sovereign to look. light weight ... waterproof. I even like the yellow color. I think that Minelab is making a mistake by letting the Sovereign just fade into history. Just one man"s opinion ...

Yep I have an Original, XS2pro and a GT on the way. 11" coinsearch and 13" ultimate. Probably have to sell one of the older ones, but which one is the hard decision!
