Don't sell an F-2 short...

Dan-Pa.

New member
Recently had the pleasure to use one and for the bucks with a 5 year warranty certainly replaced several other entry level units in the most bang for the buck category at least in my estimation. Certainly not going to compete with top of the line big buck units but it has its place for newbies and oldbies alike...

Last time some one was brave enough to make a post like this to many went off the deep end and all the post got deleted and you can't read half the post that are posted now.
I don't know why everyone is in a uproar but it gets unpleasant to read all the garb, I thought this was a place to learn and share.
Like Mr. Scott said LIFE IS SHORT, so ease up guys, Nobody enjoys life as much as I do, for I have almost lost mine 3 times and know how short is is.

I never had the F2 I had the F4 and about the same I'm sure. what I did like about the F4 and I'm sure the F2 is the same way, was quick target responce and ID was always dead on.
Super light weight, one you could swing all day, had the most fun around ballparks and playgrounds.

Perhaps I deleted many of its fine qualities and thanks for the backup, next time will have second cup of coffee rather than make an incomplete post..At 70 life is getting short but last night met an aquaintenance of years ago and he is 88 and still rides a convential bike for miles and its a cheapie where you can't shift gears so lets hope the hobby keeps us moving and adds to our lifespan....

I have to agree with you Dan. My daughter bought one to use and it is great. Sure it's not the deepest of units but she does not want to have to dig deep holes. She is happy to dig shallow clad all day long. It is super fast and the Id is accurate enough. Pinpoints right on the money too. Sometimes she will find more coins with her F2 than I do with the 3D. I may spend several minutes digging out a deeper target and she has already recovered several shallow targets before I get the deep one recovered. the little coil is awesome at seperating good targets from trash.

I am thinking of getting the F2 and have a couple of ? Can this be used when the dew is on or around water of any kind, I don't mean in the water. I like to hunt in a mist or just after a rain. Thanks for any info!

I hunt early mornings with the F2 before work when the grass is dew soaked and have no problems with either coil but would protect the control box if misty or raining. HH Bill

Hi Dan,

I have to agree with you on the F2 . I really can't find any major faults with this detector, especially for the money. I hunt a combination of hotrock, iron infested and modern trashy sites and the F2 is outstanding in it's response to the situation and love the 4 Tone Audio. I wouldn't tout the F2 on depth but appreciate it's ability to handle the rocks that drive the Explorer and many other detectors NUTS. Response in iron is more than acceptable and fairly easy to ID. Target separation is as good as it gets due to the lightning quick recovery speed. Not sure on overall depth but i'm hooked on the 4" coil and get about 4" to 5" max on certain targets. If you hunt areas where older targets are relatively shallow and target separation is the ultimate goal the F2 is very good detector for that purpose IMHO. I use it and like it. HH Bill

hi bill!
are you hitting any silver with it?..what is the best depth you are seeing on coins in trashy areas?..thanks!

Hi j.t.

To date i've hit 2 silver dimes and 1 quarter 60's dated, over 40 wheats within 4"to 5" using the small coil and several .925 rings and lots of clad. I mainly hunt through Fall, Winter and early Spring and the F2 is going to get a thorough workout real soon . I have No problems with it's performance at my sites for it's intended purpose. HH Bill

thanks bill!..was wondering if you used the 4" coil most of the time in the trash?..thanks!

Thanks for the info. Just order one and can't wait till it comes in. This will be my frist Fisher.

I do not own one but thinking about buying one. Can someone help me. The F2 has 7 sections(if I remember right) and a dual numerical display on top of that. Now on that dual numerical display, does is start at 1 and go up to what #'s, how high, in certain incriments(like by 2 at a time or so?) Is this display accurate ??

I see the Garrett 250 ACE does not have a dual numerical display but only just has sections, so the F2 must be alot better at accurately ID'ing then ??

Thanks!

Unlike the Ace 250 it has a number for instance nickle is 28-32 while the nickle block on a Ace 250 covers high foil, nickle, low tab so indeed more accurate and after a while
usually one of these numbers will be a nickle every time to further help your accuracy as in our area we have a new tab that mimics nickle on most units but after a while you will find it just hits a number higher. Recently came with an acc. 4 inch coil and of course the 5 year warranty which makes it an outstanding buy for $199.00....
New kid on the block gets my vote for most bang for the buck..

The F2 puts the F in fun. It's a real clad hog and you won't be carrying much trash home to throw away after your hunt.

I've had mine for a few months now and I'm very pleased with it's performance. With the 4" coil It's a killer in iron infested sites along metal fences and under football grand stands.

It's not the deepest detector I've ever owned but it is one of the best.

Thanks Dan-Pa and every one else, wow a $199 unit that has 00 to 99 VDI numbers, WOW!!!!

Can it tell the difference between an old and new penny?

Having used many VDI units over the years really surprised me as its very accurate telling nickles from certain tabs and pennies which really vary and after a while certainly going to cut down the odds knowing what your going after but can be fooled just like the $1,000 units can be as some junk just mimics good targets..As far as new zinc pennies no problem but like any other machine there are pennies made in the 70's up to the 80's that will ID close to a dime on any unit and its just part of the hobby....
