"Don't bother.. I got it all"

Last week I hunted a 1960's school yard, that when I was going in, another guy with a yellow detector was coming out. I had my M6 and 6X10 coil and I was ready to get some deeper coins.

The first words out of his mouth wasn't.. Hi.......or.... having any luck?or anything like that.
He said..... "Don't bother....I got it all !!"

Well we talked for 10 minutes and he told me he had been hunting the area for 4 years and nothing was left... just whatever the kids drop during the week.
I asked him if I could go find some trash items and he told me go ahead.

I was thinking I might get a couple of zinc cents and go home.

Within a couple of hours I had found 15 clad coins.
This week I went back to see what else I could find.

I found an area that the other guy with the yellow detector missed. In less than 2 hours I had dug 35 coins. One was a JFK half at 3 inches. I also dug a 1911 Barber dime ( 6inches) a 1953 Roosy dime, a "New" 1961 Roosy dime and a 1939 Merc. This area was about 30 feet by 20 feet and looked to have never been detected, by the coins I dug out of it.

So, when someone tells you the area is hunted out.... just tell them you will go pick up the trash items, so they won't have to the next time they are there.

I had same experience yesterday on the beach. Two guys with the same familiar detector with the big 12" coils. Gad those coils are big. They told me not much here and a waste of time. They each had a few coins and were leaving. Well I use the 5.3 coil on my xlt almost all the time. I went over to the monkey poles and slide area. With in a matter of a minutes I had 14 coins and another toe ring. That little coil really gets close to the metal poles and using the back and forth movement and side to side movement you can even get closer to the metal poles. I also had the yellow one and never really thought I was getting the deeper coins.
Speaking of deeper coins... Almost all my coins I dig come in the rang of 2" to 4". This is sand detecting. Is it any different with you guys?? Thanks for reading. Z

what I like about my yellow detector is the fact that i never have to worry about scratching a valuable coin. I don't need to drag along my Lesch trowel either.

I hope you were able to show him all that you found.
Nothing like a little humble pie to set a persons morning right!
But then I SHOULD TALK!!!!!
Great finds!

Anyone who thinks they "got it all" is fooling them selves. But I believe in letting them think they have.LOL

BB I agree with you why tell them.
I wish I could get through to the guys here that it just isn't so. Some years ago after the 4th of July fireworks early in the morning there was over a dozen detectors out there. Some times you couldn't help but follow after 2,3,4 guys. Every one of us were finding treasures. Same thing happens on the beach. I bet any money if I would go down to the fireworks site right now I probably would find coins that have been there since the 70's or 80's or earlier even though, every year it is the same thing after the fireworks. Just my experience and thought on "Don't bother it is all gone." Thanks for reading....Z
