Done with the D2 coil.

I am done with the D2 coil, I have had 3 from Whites (super customer service) and everyone of them falses when tapped or when it bumps something while swinging the detector. I have the 6x10 and the Eclipse 5.3, both those work great. Just ordered a Eclipse 950 and will try that.

I like concentrics better in my soil anyway.......

Could I have it?:devil::devil: ROB

Nahhh, I'm gonna ship it back to Whites, hopefully they will take it apart and see what the issue is....:bouncy:

Uh.....all larger coils false when tapped or bumped... Everyone I have ever used by every manufacturer.

Funny, my 11" DD on my Omega 8000 doesn't do it, the 12x10 sef and the 10" slimline coil on the Explorer SE I had didn't do it and the 950 concentric on my Eagle spectrum doesn't do it.... I guess I just don't run those hot enough....:wiggle:

I have an Omega also and it operates flawlessly with the 11" DD... just like my V3i does! Man, you must have bad luck with the stock coil. You will get very good depth with the 6X10, better than what you get with the Omega's 11". But you are still going to lose some depth over the stock coil. As a last resort I'd try an SEF coil (10X12 I think it is). Gary over at Gary's detecting said it quieted down his V3i really really well. Quite a few people use it as their primary coil.

I was even running my stock coil today and sensitivity + zoom said the EMI was 36%, still ran pretty quite (light falsing) with Rx at 12 and Disc at 95. I hunt on relatively flat cut meadow so maybe I don't bump it real often, but I have NEVER gotten a false from bumping it. I don't get how you could have such bad luck with coil after coil, makes me wonder if it's something else. You didn't list your settings, are you running especially hot or with Tx on? Not even sure if that would matter as I run mine hot with Tx off and there are no probs.

Good luck regardless.

Earthmansurfer,

I think I have just had bad luck with the coils. With the 6x10 and the Eclipse 5.3, the V3i is a sweet machine, just not with the D2.

The D2 running the stock coin program will false when bumped or tapped, not running it hot at all, no Tx boost.

I thought about the SEF 10x12 but, I read where people were getting different results. One guy said it would work great and the next guy not so great. Finally I decided to go with the "V" rated Eclipse 950.

Thanks,

Joe

I'm in the exact same boat that you are, I'm on my 3rd 10" DD coil and the one I have now false's when it bumps anything and at the end of a swing when you start back in the other direction.

Only 3??? I have had 5. My latest is rock solid and has lasted longer than the previous coils. Whites has this issue under control as far as I am concerned. They never even hesitated to help me out and sent a replacement without delay every single time. I would highly recommend you stay with this coil, as it is the all around best coil for the V3/V3i in my honest opinion. Like Rob said, "can I have it?"

Someone close this thread..... All large coils matched with high end detectors will false when bumped. It is physics and nothing more. If your detector does not false with a large coil when bumped than you are missing deep targets. You are detecting a change in the field and there are many things that are causing this such as...

1. The actually physical diameter of the coil is changing causing "a change and not limited to null".

2. You are generating energy itself by stopping an object in motion.

3. You are generating a response in the actual semi-conductive material that you are striking.

4. You are generating eddy currents at the end of your swing in the substrate that you are detecting.

So if you dont want falsing turn your detectors down or buy a Radio Shack model.

There are legitimately bad coils out there and it is quite obvious when you come upon them. Overloading, and falsing in non emi environments without striking anything.

Bumping the coil should cause a signal and I am not talking about brushing grass, which we all do. If you are bumping stuble than you are going to get noise.

I've got 2 D2 coils, the first one I bought before the Vision was even on the market and the second one came with my V3i but I still use the first one I got cause it's considerably lighter than the one that came with my V3i. I only use 2 coils anymore and thats the D2 and 4x6shooter for the trashy area's.
