Done carrying X-1 probe on my E-Trac. Too Heavy

When I first saw people on youtube attaching their X-1 probe to their detectors I thought it looked really cool. So for a year that's what I did. During some hunts when I was digging target after target I didn't mind the extra weight because I was taking constant breaks. However, when the targets were far and few between man-o-man the E-trac sure gets heavy. Lately I think it has been affecting my hunting especially when my arm gets really tired thus causing my form to break down. I know some attach their probes to the battery area but for some reason it does not appeal to me....reaching to the other side and I only received one clip attacment for my probe.

So this was my solution. I already do leather work as a side business so I decided to build a leather pouch. Once I had the probe/clip off the shaft the weght difference was dramatic! It didn't even feel like the same detector. Big open fields....let's do it!!

Interesting

The Husband just took it off and uses the Garrett Probe exclusively now

He is fine with it

But Good For you for finding a solution that works for you:thumbup:

Good idea but I just switch arms. I guess I just like the exercise.

You switch arms??? That is awesome! Great idea. Anyone else swtich arms? I feel so out of sync when I use my other arm to detect.

Another great idea. Do you have a pic of it to look at?

i know what you guys are talking about i have been busy and went almost 2 weeks without getting out . went for a spin today and the second place was a ballfield with few targets good or bad and i started feeling it . had the 10x12 sef and the probe on. yes i do switch arms and when you are digging it isnt too bad. i try and work the arms out during downtime a little extra , get a set of adjustable barbells . you wil be surprised what a difference those and the etrac itself will make. point being dont let it beat you just get stronger.on a side note what was bothering me today was it is back in the 80`s already here and the grass...and weeds are growing, the field had clover and it was causing the big coil not to slide like it should would just hang

I also just switch arms, myself, would find putting probe in carry bag a pain and would stand up with
detector on ground and pull something out or break something, but that is just me!

I like it !!!!

I do this too, keeps you from walking around with one popeye arm LoL but it does take some getting used to. Handy though if you hit a particularly quiet piece of ground:cheers:

The X1 probe weighs next to nothing. I really don't see any advantage removing it from the machine.
My solution to the weight problem was to go out and buy a "swingy thingy". From the biggest coils to the smallest, I never detect without it. Its a fantastic product. I actually put a sheepskin shoulder pad on it for extra comfort. You'll be suprised how you can detect all day without having to stop every minute to rest your arm.

I agree, the Swingy Thingy is why I'm able to continue to detect. Without it, my back would not hold out. It's even better when you're at the beach and using the 12X15 coil. That thing is heavy.

However, everyone does their own thing and I think it is amazing some of the creative things people do on this forum to improve their detecting.

I had one of those inline probes on my Explorers and didn't care for the extra weight, wire mess, or having to use two hands to snap/unsnap it from the shaft...resulting in getting mud on the shaft from my hands. I now use a Pro Pointer and couldn't be happier. Some people like the inline probes because they discriminate but the way I look at it if I'm bending down to dig a hole I'm removing EVERY piece of metal from that hole. There could be a coin behind a nail, and also that's one less target I have to see next time. Are you really going to bend down to dig a hole on a target that you suspect could be a coin (or a masked coin), and then give up on it because your pinpointer is now saying it's iron or some other trash? Not me. I want to see what's in there, and what might be behind that trash.

I have the X-1 and you make a very good point CH. I ran into a situation this past weekend that had me digging a one way 12-45- 12-44 and after dig and using X-1 the hole had nothing to offer. This to me was odd and had me scratching my head. Back to the holster, it looks awesome Sky. I also choose to switch arms or take an extra few on the prayer bones from an earlier dig to recoupe.

Thx 4 post,

Moose

Still have it? I'll buy it from you if you do.
