Hit a spot yesterday that I've been over many times (plus other people). I only had about an hour and thought maybe I'd be lucky enough to find a stray Merc.
After about 15 minutes I got a fairly week but repeatable signal that hit at the top of the smartfind but a little to the left of the right corner (looked GOOD!)
I cut a plug about 4-5 inches deep and had to take out a few scoops deeper. In the pile of dirt I saw a LARGE reeded edge sticking out of a clump!
PLEASE, be at least a Barber!! (coppers have come out of this spot). I'd be happy with ANY silver half, But......... ( Took me a while to pick it up ... just stared at it... you know the feeling ! ) Turned out to be a nice 1894s Barber half !

Always a great surprise to pull something good out of the ground when you least expect it. I wonder why you didn't get a stronger signal as it doesn't sound like it was that deep. I pulled a GW quarter a couple months ago at a perfect 90 degrees and it hit pretty hard....it was at 4" - 5". Congrats on a super find.

Congrats on finding the Barber Half dollar.
Would love to see some pictures of it too.

Can't explain the signal - it was strong enough but didn't sound as strong as you would expect. For some reason though, it was missed by quite a few passes by a number of people including me. Must have been one of those reverse "perfect storms" re conditions. (depth about 6-8 inches and I think it was on edge)

Them Barber Halves sure a pretty coins and I am still trying to snag one this year myself. That Silver Reeded Edge sure is something when you see it sticking out of a dirt clump that's for sure. May you find many more treasures and Good Luck and HH.:detecting:
