Doing it the right way

I had the opportunity to go out for about an hour today. The ground was soft and damp and the digging and filling back in easy. A little tamping and brushing of the grass with the foot and the disturbed soil looked as good as new. I kept thinking of some of the horror stories I've been reading on this forum about people not filling in their holes and wished I had a video camera setup with me today to show them how it's done. If any of you are currently set up to video you'd be doing the hobby a great service by making a short video and posting it on here to show the newbies the cutting of a plug, putting the dirt on a drop cloth, refilling and tamping the dirt and replacing the plug.

Love this hobby and doing what I can to make sure we all can enjoy it for a long time. HH

put a hook on it and hang it from your belt. Put the lose dirt in it and when your done, fold it and dump the dirt back in the hole and then replace the plug. Thats what I did on a golf course in Utah. Its where I found my 1893CC eagle.

We hunt mainly in rugged forest. With wind-toppled bug-infested trees and logging scars everywhere, even so, we still backfilll our puny little holes. I don't need to worry much about scattered soil, but I still level it back out. You won't find many manicured lawns around here, especially so due to the drought, but we stay off lawns and go more for prospecting and relic hunting.
