Dogs savage an alligator in Florida...

Dogs savage an alligator. Sometimes nature is cruel but there is also a beauty in that cruelty. The alligator is one of the most ultimate predators but can fall victim to the kind of implemented 'team work' stratety which is possible due to the pack mentality and social structure of canines. See below the remarkable photograph courtesy of Nature Magazine. Warning: If you are squeamish, don't look...!!!

 Just warming up for April Fools!

... They look cute when they are only about 6" or 7" long in the pet store. Trouble is they get meaner as they grow older and they will try to eat you and your pets if given the chance. About the time they get over 3 feet long, some folks have let them loose rather than have them destroyed. In our area, they grow up to 7' long in the wild and have no natural predators here to keep them in check.

It is estimated there are several thousand in Cape Coral and on Sanibel Island. Local officials are trying to get Federal funding to get them (Nile monitor lizards) trapped and destroyed before some child gets killed by one.

The Nile, when cornered or feels threatened, will stand up on its hind legs, waving its front legs over its head while it trys to whack you down with its powerful tail. Since it eats mostly dead stinky rotten things, its sharp claws and teeth are worse than a cesspool as to deadly infections they carry. Those lizards are VERY BAD BOYS!
