Dogs/animals and flash in the eyes

People often e-mail me and ask why when they take pictures of their animals indoors with flash the animals eyes either turn red are get completely white and big.........
With consumer grade cameras and their fixed flashes it is probably impossible to avoid this. The solution is to somehow use indirect light so that the flash does not go into the eyes directly.
Maybe somebody here has experimented with this and consumer grade digitals?
Click on the link I have enclosed to see an image I did on Christmas Day 2001 I used bounce flash by moving the flash head on my Nikon flash up 1 click and ley the camera compensate for the exposure change......

My E-10 has a built-in flash that I use as fill-in in combination with my FL-40 accessory flash. On the FL-40 is an opaque cup slipped over the flash end to diffuse and it can be angled for that

I took this photo when I was fourteen with a Fe2 35-105 lens 17 year's ago and Just re-took it with a Fuji FP.A101 so please excuse the washout!! The origional is very crisp.

I lightened it a little in Photoshop and sent it to you. Digital is the way to go and get a good photo program. You can do wonders with a picture.
One thing I like about a good digital is the fact that you can take a picture of a scene and when you get it in your puter, you can get two or three pictures out of the one shot. That is one thing great about a fairly high pixel rate. I really don't know diddly about the things but I do know what I like!! <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
