Dogs and metal detectors

Waterdog

Well-known member
While out metal detecting this big Alaskan malamute came by me and seemed to be looking for a friend. After a while it was running around in circles by me as if too impress me. It looked thirsty so I gave it what water I had it my bag. I got a target, dropped to me knees and started digging. The dog came by brought a empty water bottle by and dropped it by and laid down along side my metal detector as I was digging. All of a sudden it's back legs went up, the dog barked at me, it grabbed my metal detector in it's mouth and it was gone. After it ran around me 3 times then it brought my metal detector back and set it down.

Dogs and detectors just don't mix.... I had a friendly pup knock one of mine over and break it... The puppy doesn't mean any harm... but it always ends bad for the detector....

If I had to chase that animal to get my machine back, there would of been fur flying 😂😂😂

My daughter had one of them little Yorkie Terriers . Her dogs always ended being my dogs . Anyway , I went out detecting some old farmland one day ,, let the little pup tag along . I got a hit , crossed the target to get the center of it . Bent down , stuck my lesche in the dirt , pulled out a handful of dirt ,, and that pup jumped in the hole and started digging like crazy ,, I stood up and watched her ,, she'd jump back ,, look up at me , and if I bent down to dig again.,, she'd jump back in there slinging dirt behind her . I was finally able to retrieve the target ,, a rusted up 4 way lug wrench . I tried a little more detecting ,, but as funny as it was watching that little pup sling that dirt out of the hole ,, it was more trouble than it was worth having her around . We packed up and left . I do miss that little pup tho .

Hey, you could of had this dog grab and run. My dog is right in front of him, mine weighs 70 lbs and is a decent sized dog. The Giant Malamute is 150 lbs and growing.

I would say nothing and hope to get away un-ate…..

When it was running around with the detector in its mouth did he find anything..? Maybe he knows something that you don't..?

Very cool I lost my best friend 2 years ago. That pooch gave more love than certain family members.

My Great Dane used to tag along and she would watch me. I'd dig a target and move on. At some point I looked back and saw her digging out the place I just filled in, all of them.
As I lived across the street from the school I just took her home. What was worse was little kids throwing cents on the ground: I said throw dimes and quarters and a few did, (In the '60's
25 cents got me in the theater Saturday and a bag of popcorn: 10 cents more got me a soft drink, Times and the scale of economics has changed greatly, but the difference is I had to work for it.)

That's why I always keep my Detector attached to my Harness with a length of rope as I mainly detect beaches and you never know if anyone will run off with it, I am far too old to chase anyone but one day a large dog thought my border spade was a stick to throw for him and tried to pinch it.

I really feel sure we will see our pets on the other side. However make sure you know JESUS. You will be in paradise and will see your loved one that made it.

I wonder, will they continue to leave little puddles and piles and will someone be required to clean it up (we do not want Heaven turning into San Francisco) or will these little indiscretions just magically disappear?
(I am reminded of the Twilight Zone episode where the old hunter Hyder and his dog Rip are on a racoon hunt and drown, he finally realizes it and walking down a road meets "the Gatekeeper" who invites
him in and as he brings in Rip is told dogs are not allowed and there is no hunting and Hyder figures Heaven is too fancy and full of city folks so he passes on and after a while sits down. A young man approaches
who is the Messenger and says he has been sent to find them and the 1st gate was Hell and the Devil tries to the last moment and will not allow dogs who can smell brimstone. They head down the road to a plain simple opening and the Messenger assures him there's raccoon hunting and square dancing in Heaven and that his wife will be there shortly, with no trouble at the 1st gate.) With the streets made of gold I just hope things are not reversed with us digging tabs and bottlecaps and zincs.
(Rod Serling: Travelers to unknown regions would be well-advised to take along the family dog. He could just save you from entering the wrong gate. At least, it happened that way once in a mountainous area of the Twilight Zone.)
