Does white gold ring up different?

copper kidd

New member
Using the AT Pro, does white gold sound or give the same VDI as yellow gold, providing both pieces were the same? I haven't found either yet but was just wondering about this. I hunt mostly old farm areas where the people here didn't have very little or no gold at all.
Thanks

Being that gold can show up in several areas on the ID screen, the short answer yes. The size, karat and what the gold is amalgamated with all play a part in it's ID. Having said that, gold probably more often then not, shows up close to where pull tabs read. So........the best gold ring finders, also dig the most pull tabs.

I've seen a couple 14K white gold rings indicate in the foil range when I was using my dad's AT PRO. Usually the "white" part of white gold is nickel which has a lot less conductivity than copper. I also found a 999 gold ring two years ago that indicated like a silver dime, so gold can be all over the scale!
