DOES THIS LOOK LEGIT?

Check out item no. 320277140803 on ebay. Anybody know anything about this detector? I think something looks funny here. What do you think?

yeah i had one long ago..be careful i think some of the parts you might need are no longer available for the Sovereign's before the Elite.

Looks OK to me, but it is over 10 years old and sold higher than it was probably worth being it didnt have the rechargeable battery or charger I could see in the picture plus no meter. It did have the 8 inch coinsearch coil which is one of the best Minelab made, but wasnt waterproof. I understand parts are still available for these, but if it is a electronic part it will have to be sent in and in many case the part and labor maybe more than a 10 year old detector is worth.

it was not legit! i won the auction for $335.75. i was first suspicious when he didnt answer my 4 emails.then when it arrived:
1.had a different serial model no.[wrong by 1 letter] from what he wrote it was before auction ended
2.broken off control mount on pole,all wrapped in electrical tape
3.horrible looking coil,he used a picture of the bottom with cover off for ebay.didnt even send me the cover.
4.bad short in wire and/or box. it would howl like a banshee if moved,touched .needs new coil.
5.carry case he was to include was a nylon hipmount bag!

i think all i can do is send it to dixie detectors for new coil and tune-up/mod, then charge him for it.i used paypal so maybe it could still work out.what would you do? this was the first bad deal from ebay i ever got,hopefully the last.happy hunting,sam in mississippi

I'd file a complaint with both Paypal and Ebay and get my money back.

I'm sorry.....That really sucks. It's sellers like him (among other things) that give eBay a bad name.

what part of the coil looks bad if he showed a picture of the bottom without the cover?

the top of the coil is all stained and messed up,no big deal but some wire is shorting along last 2 feet of cablegoing into the box.sam

file a " item significantly not as described " dispute with ebay and paypal both . then call paypal @1-800-854-1366 and speak to a representative directly . and report the seller as committing fraud against you by intentionally describing a mint item that is actually a worn out unit needing repair . if you have to wait to file the disputes you can still call paypal first and they will help you right away . they will freeze his account and allocate your money for you and they will force him to refund you after they investigate the listing details . also get a email addy for the paypal representative so you can foreword your pictures of the item received . i had to do this once before and they facilitated a refund for me and then ebay sent me an apology with a 50 dollar ebay gift certificate for my inconvenience. i was very surprised . good luck to you .
