Does the Sovereign GT have...

...true auto ground Tracking in Discrimination mode?? ( I asked that question on the X-Terra Forum and got 2 different answers from experienced people so I am confused now. Yes I know it works in the All Metal mode. )

I have a X-Terra 70 and Musketeer Advantage but now I am looking at the Sovereign GT. I know that both the X-Terra 70 and the MXT have auto ground Tracking in the Disc. mode. Both the Advantage and Vaquero have manual GB in the Disc. mode as well. The F75 has trigger activated fast grab GB in the Disc. mode. I will not generally buy a machine unless it has some kind of GB in the Disc. mode. The exception is the Excalibur and E-Trac. Thank you.

If the exception is the "Excal and Etrac" than youve answered your own question. The Excal is a waterproof Sov.

I dont know if it ground balances/tracks/compensates.......dont know what you call it but it can go from dry sand to wet sand at the ocean no problem, and you have to switch modes on both the MXT and Xterras to do that, Ive had and used em both. The Sov will run as smooth as silk almost anywhere in disc mode and get great depth. same with the Explorer.

Thanks for the great info. both of you. Good to know.

"If the exception is the "Excal and Etrac" than youve answered your own question. The Excal is a waterproof Sov."

But you are incorrect here. The Sov has Tracking and the Excal does not. I did not answer my own question. I knew the Excal had no Tracking and the Sov did have Tracking and I wanted to know if the Sov's Tracking worked in Discrimination mode which I did not know. I knew it worked in All Metal mode.

The GT the tracking only works in all metal, dont need it in disc like the Excal and the Explorers. I believe the tracking is for those that prospect and run all metal, but in disc this isn't needed as it is constantly comparing the ground to target, this is what makes the Sovereigns and Explorer so good for beach hunting or hunting in some more mineralized land sites.

There are two all metal modes on the GT, one has the" tracking mode" and one is the pinpoint mode, which compensates/tracks/adjusts.....whatever....lol.....just like all the all metal modes in the older sovs. Now the response in all metal tracking is like in the disc mode in that it gives a broad signal.

Now in the all metal tracking mode you can lock your setting in, versus the pinpoint all metal mode you cannot. So is that the real advantage, that you can actually stop the machine from compensating and lock it in to a certain GB. I briefly spoke with Dick in Vegas on this awhile back, he did state they are two seperate modes but that that both adjusted to the ground(which I already knew), but he mentioned the locking in feature and I dont remember if that was the main difference.
