Does the M6 hunt in Mixed Mode audio like the MXT does in the Relic Mode. Thanks :D: :D:

Great info Jeff...

There has been debate in the past about depth of detection difference between the C/J and Relic modes. Some feel Relic mode is deeper. My feeling has always been that C/J mode with a properly adjusted threshold and listening for the non VDI whispers is equally as deep on coin size targets. It seems to me that there is a line drawn between users that prefer multi tone machines and ones like me that prefer single tone beep dig machines and more often than not that is the real reason for the difference of opinion.

Your thoughts please.

Hi Tom,

Although the engineer's notes for the MXT claims that Relic goes deeper, my experience has been the same as yours. For equal sensitivity settings, the C&J mode does reach a little bit deeper than Relic mode.

I feel it is somehow related to extra filtering that may be going on in Relic mode. I'm no expert in the internal electronics and maybe Jeff can step in and comment, but the threshold in Relic mode is less
"ratty" than in C&J mode which is what leads me to believe there is more filtering going on under the covers.

Also, it may be that with this extra filtering, some hunters can crank up the sensitivity higher than they
would otherwise feel comfortable with in C&J mode, thus perpetuating the myth that Relic goes deeper.

Thanks again! I don't mind the low iron tones so much but I hate the inbetween sound of targets near the disc point using relic mode. When hunting heavy iron you need every advantage and good targets can easily get dragged down (averaged)to a disc setting of 2. C/J easily gives better audio information on a target at that point once you learn it. The slightly slower sweep allowance would be nice tho.

Relic is much smoother in certain situations. I never really had much of a problem getting a useable threshold in C/J. When you first start to hear it, it is uneven sounding but just a tad more and it smoothed out enough to be useable... at least on the 2 MXT's I had.

I never used the + settings on the gain. Just over 10 where you hear the ramp up in the audio is all I ever needed to hear the deeper whispers with a fairly smooth threshold working for me.
