Does the hi tone still work on faint signals?

Dennis Harbour

I've been redind thge AT is mostly an audio machine, so are the tones fairly accurated on signals deeper the vdi can read?

i've noticed sometimes I get the hi pitch on low numbersand expected hi tones on 70+, could I be passing up deeper coins?

Yes , I think high audio tones and no vdi number on the display at the same time should have a red flashing signal(Break out shovel) The audio is what it is and the number read out is questionable?

Yes...to a point, and just before they start disappearing, they start reading as lower conductors. The only machine that I am aware of that maintains it's tones all the way down is the Infinium. I have never heard of any single frequency detector properly reading the deepest, faintest signals. So, dig those deep whispers no matter where they read. You might get that coin or button that others passed by because it read as junk.

I got a 80 VDI# yesterday, it read 10 inches down, I thought it was iron, it was a weak signal, about a foot down I popped out a LC, this is what I like in this machine, you can hear the weaker signals, I could not do this with my 1500, I wonder if they can modify the 1500 to do it

I have been very disappointed with my very deep high tones. 95% of them have turned out to be pull tabs in the lake beds where I have been hunting. The very deep bottle caps have also been sounding good coming in with mid tones.

I am still finding at least one gold ring just about every time I take my AT out pull tab hunting. All of them have been small 10k rings. I am due for a big honker!

I checked the AT yesterday on the Deep Hunt Test Targets at Our National Hunt yesterday. It nailed all of the targets in both modes! I was impressed again!

Dennis, unfortunately the tone at depth(8 inches plus) are not as distinct as shallow signals. I have found the numbers to lose their accuracy as well on deep signals. If I get a repeatable "tick" along with an occasional good number, I dig. Now if you are checking in iron audio and you get any sort of tick or tone mixed in with the "iron grunts", I am digging. Yes, I find many tabs and beaver tails, but I also have found some of my older coins. One thing I have noticed about the AT and modern trash(tabs, beaver tails, and aluminum slaw) is it high tones on all of this stuff. As I told Elton in an earlier post, the numbers will jump plenty on this junk. A coin will hold within a couple of numbers where a tab will jump sometimes 10 to 15 numbers when you check the signal from another direction. I always hunt in Pro mode, iron disc at 30, sens one bar from maximum, and iron audio off(I activate it to check just about all deeper signals). For the record, my ground balance is always in the high 80's to low 90's. Good luck and once you learn the AT, you will discover one of the BEST detectors around. R.L.

Thank You John i will remember this advice

The real problem I'm having is the hard ground, no rain in a month, red clay and gravel soil. It is difficult to dig a deep targetin thiss oil if you're notsure howaccurate the tones are.Every timeI get adeeptarget with ahigh tone (pro mode) , I get the round bottomof a drink can.
