I bought the Silver uMax about a month ago and I have not found one silver coin yet... I don't know if it is due to the soil being soft in my location and the old stuff is too deep. I am finding clad as far down as 6 to 7 inches, where a lot of people on You Tube are finding silver coins. Is it because most of them are using E-Tracs or is it because they have harsher winters causing the coins not to sink as deep in the soil? Can I use a different coil for my uMax that will go deeper, or do I need to look for a different detector? I am hitting the older spots and have only found two wheat pennies. I have found silver rings and earrings, but no coins, not even a silver Roosevelt Dime. It is getting frustrating.
Silver coins are elusive target. You have to dig a lot of signals and also be in an area where silver might be found. I would suggest getting permission to hunt older homesites. All but 2 of my silver coins have been found on private land. Yes the Silver will find silver in the South, Beale.
bowdenet, you have a great detector and it will find coins like crazy..... but silver coins aren't as common to find as they were back in the 80's when I started hunting. you have to think out of the box so to speak, and find those sites that haven't been pounded to death by everyone. ask permission to hunt residential yards and research old picnic areas used long ago and you will find the silver you are looking for. another suggestion is to buy the small 5.75" coil for your silver
I Live in Texas and use the Silver Umax... in fact I have two of them. You have to remember that the old old silver coins weren't lost because back then a dime or quarter was alot of money back then and they were careful not to lose it. back then a quarter was like having ten dollars now. they are out there but few and far between. People did bury coin back when banks weren't popular . you might check along fence lines and around old barns .... try to think of places where someone would bury money.
Good Luck.... you have a great detector and no need to buy another until you learn the one you have.
