Does Having a Compadre Make Sense -

... if I already own an Eldorado, a Bandido II uMAX or a Golden? In other words, is there anything the Compadre does better than these other machines that would justify my keeping it in my detector arsenal?

Pretty hard to beat for an "always in the vehicle" or loaner machine and surprisingly capable for the price. Many comment that the Compadre is more sensitivie to small gold chains and the like than many other detectors, but I haven't checked that out personally. Definitely easy and fun to use for a loaner.

Just checked and all three of the machines I mentioned are 10Khz machines while the Compadre comes in at 12Khz. This suggests that the Compadre would probably be more sensitive to small gold items.

only if you are looking for small gold chains, and earrings studs, I like the silver umax better for general hunting,

There is a certain fun factor to the Compadre... Kind of hard to explain till you use one. Plus, like the others said, it is sensitive to small gold.

Yes, it makes sense to keep the Compadre even though you have the others. I at first thought the same thing and sold off my compadre but soon realized that I needed to pick another up. The Compadre can find things when there is other large metal items are around that my other detectors can't seem to. It gets in close and will sound off with a subtle second beep. The others just sound off near large metal and have a hard time picking up a coin say near large iron etc. Try it out for yourself!

You have three Tesoro's so that leaves one for you and two as a loaner for a friends or family.

You have the ED-180 Discrimination with the Eldorado µMAX.

You have the ability to switch coils with all three models, and between all three models.

The Eldorado and Bandido II µMAX models are some of the all-time best, most versatile detectors Tesoro ever made.

All three of your Tesoro's have an All Metal Pinpoint function, and two of the three have manual Ground Balance to adjust them with any search coil for any site environment.

Also, there really is no big deal difference between them operating at 10 kHz or 12 kHz or even the 15 kHz Golden Sabre Plus of long ago. Some people can hit a little better on a thin gold chain with a Compadre because they can adjust the Discrimination lower than many of the other models.

No, in my opinion, is the simple answer.

Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing I have ever tried including several different detector/ coil combinations, (including a Vaq and sniper coil), and more settings than I can count can get my coil as close to big metal and find targets like a Compadre...and for this thing it is effortless.
Tot lot iron, fence posts, bench legs...I have found coins near, next to directly under and even leaning on huge iron with the Compadre listening for that double beep.
If this is the only reason to have one it is a great one, but there are so many more and fantastic fun is just one more.

The absolute truth!! I stand behind this answer 100%. You have to experience it to believe it.

Correct Revier and Slingshot, by lifting the coil for depth ID, listening for the double beat for multiple targets and thumbing the Disc for object ID, yes everyone needs one. You can spend hundreds of $$ and still not have hundreds of more fun.

Yes. That's why I have all different brands. The Tesoros fill a special need because of many reasons and the other brands have a different use. Isn't it great to live in America and have all these great Companies to choose from?:usaflag:

You nailed it sling

I have a bandido II Umax, an Eldorado Umax and an compadre. I find myself reaching for the compadre more than the other 2. To this day it has found me my highest dollar gold ring. Most if my silver jewelry and silver coins and stays in my car for those just in case hunts that I might need to go on. If my compadre were to get stolen I would be upset, but it can be replaced easier than a bandido or Eldorado because it is still in production. The other thing that makes it wise to own it along with the other two is that detectors operate on different frequencies and so I can go over the same ground with all 3 machines and find treasures I might have missed. Plus the affordability if the compadre vs what I have found and the fun I have had hunting with it has made me want to own two of them, so my kids can learn how to detect without having to give up using mine while I am hunting with them. I will not part with my compadre. You can't go wrong with this detector. HH

Well I guess that settles that! People love their Compadres.:)

My Compadre has paid for itself many times over, so I see no reason to sell it. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?17,1783204
