Does FREEZING batteries work?

New member
Let's say that Walmart has a sale on all the batteries I use (AA, AAA, 9V)...does it work to buy and freeze batteries for later use? Thanks in advance for any replies!

I do this myself, refrigerate anyway, but I think the manufactures say, there is no benefit to the practice. Heat on the other hand WILL reduce the life of a battery.

I'm not a battery expert but the cold drains the charge faster and once the charge is completely gone many batteries won't recharge(if you have rechargeable). I wouldn't freeze them if they were mine.

I used to store mine in the refrigerator, unfrozen. Most quality alkalines on the market now have such along shelf life I don't think it's necessary unless they are going to be setting for quite a long time.

Another thing to keep in mind. And it can happen if one is not paying attention. Putting a battery that is cooler than ambient air temperature in a electronics device can create condensation (moisture). Real easy to forget we just put some popscicle batteries in our machine when changing out batteries in the field. The thrill of the hunt superscedes our normal clear thinking sometimes.

Nope. not at all. There has been research done and it doesn't matter. Kinda like a old wifes tale. It may offend your fish sticks though! They even hate microwaves.

I had Friend that worked at a place that made battery's, and they store them in refrigerator.
