Does everyone sell the x-70 for the same price?

I paid something close to the equivalent of US$1100 for mine. Don't complain!

/Lives in Australia
/Minelab is an Australian company.
/Makes no sense at all, does it?

I meant that in a lighthearted way. It's a shame I couldn't get the X-70 at a price closer to the figures you guys pay.
Unfortunately, like digital cameras, we can't purchase Minelab Detectors from overseas if we also want the benefit of a Warranty.

Last time I looked, I think Kellyco was offering a reduced price compared to a few other sellers.

Cheers,

Marco

when a dealer "contracts" to sell Minelab equipment (and most other brands), they agree to specific terms. Part of those terms include how much they can discount detectors from the "Retail Price". Based on what I've seen, the current discounted price of an X-70 (in the US) is around $698 - $700. Some dealers don't advertise prices and some do. And although dealers are not suppose to offer "discounts", many of them will include some accessories "free" or at reduced prices. My advice is to call around and find a dealer willing to offer the package, pricing and support that fits your needs. JMO HH Randy

One other thing to keep in mind/consideration. A local dealer will normally give you some instruction in using the device. My dealer will give you time at no charge to learn to use the detectors he sells. He also has classes and outings where you can learn more about the device and depending on the outing go to England/Tennessee for relic hunting or into Oregon/Alaska/Nevada and prospect for gold using the detector (naturally it has to be one that can find gold -- X70, MXT, GP, GPS, etc).

So, you can find a cheaper price from kellyco (a good company I am sure :p) but, I paid more for the detector and the instruction. Way faster than doing it myself. Bought a Fisher Gold Bug 2 from my dealer last year and found small gold during that weekend training out.

I am in the process of purchasing a Minelab Xterra 70 from him and am looking forward to learning how to use that tool to not only find gold but also coin/relic shoot.

All of the dealers sell the 70 for about the same price. Many offer extras, but a lot of what is offered is junk such as low quality headphones, tools etc. If you have a local dealer, sometimes it's better to check with them. You may get a quality set of headphones thrown in or maybe just pay a little more for them. I got my detector from Kellyco. The extras were mostly useless junk. It did come with a Minelab carry case, Minelab belt bag and an extended warranty. The case and a belt bag were included in the price from Minelab at the time I bought it. The 2 year extension of the warranty may have been from Minelab also, I'm not sure. Find out what deals minelab is running at the time of purchase. Any extras that Minelab is offering will be included in the price of the detector even though some dealers advertise them as if they are free extras. If a dealer is offering instruction, it can save a lot of time learning the detector.
If you decide to buy the X-70, I think you will really love it. It's a fantastic machine for the price and easier to learn than some of the higher end machines.

Good hunting, John K

hi goesforever i just bought my x terra 70 pro pack with 2 heads carrying bag, and head phones, 788.00 plus 47.28 tax for total of 835.28 i bought it at my local dealer. i had it one week and it quit working. my dealer called Minelab and they told him to put a new control box on it and get me back to detecting. they sent the dealer a new control box the next day. it all worked out nice and quick. so i think it is best to buy from your local dealer just in case you need help fast. ps i think the x terra 70 is one mean machine. fill those holes and have fun. frank barnett.

Minelab detectors have a smaller profit margin than most(maybe all) brands. Due to this fact, dealers can't drop the price much even if they wanted to. I lucked out and was able to make a killer trade for a minelab with several coils, but even used they still retain their value well and in my experience they are easy to sell. That is nice just in case you decide this isn't the detector for you, but the odds are really against that...

I recommend contacting Richard Robinson. His nick name on this forum is Richard@BackwoodsDetectors. He sells Xterra-70 as a one person operation, I to support the little guy.

He hooked me up with an Xterra 70 and two extra coils. I baught the two extra coils from used, but they were flawless, gave me an awesome package.

Ask him what he has... SUPER awesome person. Honest, straightforward and great person to deal with.

That is what is called MAP or Manufacturer's Advertised Price; which is the price we can advertise the product. Can a better deal be had? All you have to do is call and find out.

I looked int selling minelab as a one person operation. They claim they have the highest profit margin of all and based on the dealer price list, I tend to believe it.

I think you get the most for your money @ Kellyco. Free shipping and a lot of extras. I bought mine the end of April and paid $799.00 for the 2 coil package.

I got my info from a friend who sells a lot of metal detectors and many brands. He could give me some pretty good wiggle room on detectors below the normal price. He stopped selling minelabs because of the low profit margin, at least that is what he told me. You won't find lower WRITTEN advertised prices than the MAP, as refered to by JW at Kellyco, that is the rules. That is why so many dealers quote the same price to the penny. Ever looked on ebay and seen the identical price for brand new detectors, page after page? That is not by accident. Calling on the phone to try and get lower pricing may yield results...

I signed a contract with Minelab to sale at MAP prices. The reason why that everyone should sell at the same price is that it makes "the playing field level." Some dealers choose to
sale their detectors for considerably less than that.... For example, I sell a Garrett Infinium for $1062.50, other dealers have been know to sell for less than $900. That is good for the
buyer until there is a problem and with such a low profit margin, the customer may not get the same attention they did if they had paid MAP prices... If I make $200 on a detector, I am going
to take care of you, if I make $50 on the same detector, then your problems may be not as important... There are customers who support both types of dealers and probably more and more are shopping for the best deal out there.... Just make sure that with the best deal comes the best customer support available.... HH Richard

Got mine at Kellyco as well. In fact, every metal detector I've ever bought, I bought from them -- 4 in all since about '84 or so.

He is telling you a fact about the Service offered. Richard sticks with you till your perfectly Happy.
You do not get that kind of service everywhere...And let me tell you..The prices are not much different.
Figure in Shipping...Included with Backwoods Detectors, trade in prices that Backwoods offers, and other little details.
You pay about the same, and get the benefits of FULL SERVICE !!

It's easy to get one. Order it on line. 3 days later it's on your front porch. It runs a little different than what your used to. But I'm sure you've read everything about it and will be off and running. I believe it is a detector you won't out grow. Unless there's a Xterra 90 going to come out? I really think the 70 has every USEFUL setting that you can either adjust or let the machine do it. Summer is getting away. Don't hesitate.
