Does disc increase depth on the AT MAX???

If you like to find deep silver and use the Max you might want to check this video out.. to discrim or not to discrim is the million dollar question.. If you dream of finding silver like this this video might help increase your chances. The coin was not found with the max but it was a very deep coin around 9 inchs and fits whats talked about in the video very well...

your welcome seemed to clean up the deep signal some.... I have found the same thing to be true with another brand too.

Adding disc. only removes the audio and does not add add or take away depth, unlike some detectors with rotary knobs, where as you increase the disc, you do in fact lose depth.

But, some of the harmonics and other signals which often help to define the target as good or bad will also be lost.

The rule of thumb is too use the least amount of disc. as possible.:detecting:

John, if you watch his video you will see that 35 in the iron disc does seem to help with the audio on deep silver.

It does because it discs out the ground minerals that start to overtake the DEEP target and those minerals are why you hear the iron grunt on the edge of the signals, found the same to be true with my primary detector too.. I know it doesn't increase depth per se but it does disc out the ground minerals that are trying to overtake the target at depth which lets the signal clean up... Andy Sabich says that disc increases depth on the deus and ive found it to be true on that machine too.....I was always on Johns line of thinking too , ran my at pro with zero disc but you in see the video which one hits the extreme deep silver better.. NO DISC ? LOW DISC? OR HIGH DISC? I have always heard the less disc the better too but sometimes in testing on targets ,you find things that go against the grain... I will test the max at full disc and see if it effects depth..

Very extreme ground may require you to go into DISC mode. In all other cases the All Metal is much better depth. If you read the manual it says don't use much iron discrimination, like 10 or 15. When in doubt, read and go by what the manual says.

If you can't find anything about working in extreme ground, there is some info in the prospecting section of the AT Gold manual. Also some stuff in Advanced Tips and Techniques, as well as in the ground balance section. You can read the owner's manual for free on-line at the Garrett website under the Warranty/Support section.

I go by the manual, not what John says or anybody else. I know some people think they don't need to read the manual, but that's being ignorant. There's good info there and you should read every word I don't care how many years experience you have. And if you have been detecting for several years, there is even MORE REASON to read the manual because the detectors are different now.

Like the sweep speed. John says go slow. The manual says differently. Read it and see. It says three feet per second. That's fast. You see that video the guy making tiny little passes. The detector can't read the ground. Not very smart to listen to anybody go against the manual. Don't make the mistake of not reading it, every single word.

The manual says run 10 or 15 ok , Have you ever tried to disc out a small nail at a disc of 10 or 15 in disc mode? Steve on the garrett youtube instruction video HIMSELF was running a disc of 35 in all metal mode , he might need to read the manual. My ground is mild and is very easy on a detector....you have to remember the guys who wrote the manual I suppose are in texas and their settings might not work in your soil...My primary detector wont hit squat if you dont use a confident sweep speed or a tight wiggle with movement just like I do with the max in the video... Manuals are great for learning the features of a detector and a must... but test gardens with your own soil and the targets you will be searching for are a must and are where the rubber meets the road... The max has a feature in all metal that that the gold doesnt have , you can add disc in the all metal mode. I myself will never hunt in all metal mode I relic hunt in civil war and colonial sites and that feature is useless there unless you want to dig 10000 square nails .. take you a nail and lay it on the ground add a disc of 15 . What happened ? Does that make the manual wrong? Bury you a silver quarter at 10 inchs and try zero disc. 10 or 15 disc, 35 disc and then wide open and tell me which one hits it the best... Does that make the manual wrong? I would ad vise not to take my word for it , Johns word for it and in this case not even the manuals word for it. Conduct your own test and let us know the results. I don't know if you were talking about my swing speed in the video and making tiny passes , that how you isolate targets. I hunt thick iron sometimes machine gun iron and we are pretty good at it. I guess we learn tricks others don't know about , you cant hack around when your hunting that type stuff because your trying to isolate targets. If I made big sweeping swings in the test videos all that would do is show how trashy my test garden is with can slaw...Did I show something in the test results you didn't like? If so please tell me and I will do it again and use your suggestions on that particular test and see if it turns out different.. thanks

Amen brother! Thank you for a very informative and thought provoking video. You have convinced me to make a good test garden and try to learn what my machine is telling me - in MY soil. Appreciate your hard work!
