Does anyone use a bridge camera? ............

Kelley (Texas)

New member
Does anyone use a bridge camera? At one time, I used the Canon SX10is digital bridge camera and loved it. I carried it in the saddle bags of my motorcycle as I rode the back roads of South Texas, taking pictures of historical sites, old houses & barns, or other interesting sites. While I have since started using a DSLR, I still have the camera, and love to use it on occasion.

For those of you that want a camera with lots of features, but don't want to use a DSLR, you might give some thought to buying a bridge camera. You will be amazed at the outstanding pictures that you can produce with a bridge camera if used properly. Below, I am providing a link with information about the Canon SX10is camera that I own, that will give you an indication about what a bridge camera is capable of doing. Please note that this camera is obsolete, and I think the latest camera like it would be the Canon SX50is camera. I am also posting two pictures taken with my bridge camera using the Auto Mode provision of the camera and a picture of my motorcycle with the saddle bags where the camera rode in as I rode the back roads of South Texas. I think a couple of those are just as good as dslr shots! I've had bridge cameras in the past but not anymore (unless my Sony A7r is considered one....not sure of the definition).

Nice bike! What year is it? Also great shots too!

I have a Fujifilm FinePix S6800 bridge camera that I love to play around with. Here's a few for you that were taken with Auto Mode also.

a bridge camera is that I can use the Auto Mode and get some great pictures. My canon SX10is is capable of using full Manual Mode, but my hands are too big and using Manual Mode is difficult. However, I must admit that I favor using Auto Mode, so easy to do. I don't use my bridge camera anymore and now use a small DSLR camera.

You are using a very popular camera, a favorite of many photographers down here in South Texas. It is compact and a real joy to use, and folks love the amazing pictures that they get using Auto Mode.

These are some great pictures. I especially love the very last picture, the one of "The General." Those are beautiful dogs! Thanks for sharing! Kelley (Texas) :)

our cameras could be referred to as small DSLR cameras. I love my Sony NEX-6 camera, just wish I could get out to use it more often. I would love to have your natural talent too! Kelley (Texas) :)

Thank you Kelly. We have that special place in our hearts for that big boy. Both Boxers are special but there's something about The General that has brought so much "good" out in people. I couldn't even count. He's a joy and what an amazing boy.

I have used the bridge camera in manual mode in some pics and was quite surprised with the quality. This bridge camera is a keeper. Like I said, "It's a fun camera".

Each camera has it's place. I will grab my Canon PowerShot Elph 110 HS for a quick turn on and shoot shot. The Fuji and Canon PowerShot has a slow, wait till you can take another picture . (Yes, I have a brain fart as to the name of it.) The Canon EOS Rebel T3i was a great true color and with a small learning curve camera that took great fast shots too. As with the Nikon D40X, I can snap pictures off right and left. You can take pictures so fast with the two DSLRs. I miss that in the smaller cameras.

I still like my old Casio EX-Z750 pocket camera. It's been a workhorse.

Hello.
Great thread and great shots.:clapping:

Using a bridge-cam, too. When I went from analog to digital the camera type also changed (SLR --> Bridge). And I've to say I love using the bridge-cam. All 3 bridges I have are fujifilm.
The newest one here is the HS 25 EXR.

at the number of people using a bridge camera and the amazing pictures they are producing.

Vito, where did you take this picture? It has good detail and colors, and good composition! Thanks for sharing the picture with us. Kelley (Texas) :)

@Kelley (Texas) & DavefromCt - Thank you so much for the kind words.

Took this picture while the wife was taking pictures from this field. She found this beautiful scenario while she was driving through the landscape and decided to perpetuate this on ram (correct term?).

It was in the fields between Haltern am See and Marl.

Oh so beautiful. I am so happy to be part of this forum and to be able to look at some of this breathtaking photos. Thank you!!!!!

This shot is totally amazing. I would frame this one. Very nice shot Veto.

Yes,beautiful shot vito.I use a panasonic fz200 for most of my nature shots. It has a constant aperture f2.8 25-600mm lens and gets great shots, especially when the light is good. The lens is made by leica which is also a plus point.Bridge cameras are capable of stunning photos when the light is good, you just have to know how to use them to get the best from them. This was taken with the panny at f2.8 and about 400mm.The photo is pin sharp although it has suffered a little from resizing.I believe that when technology allows, bridge cameras will be the norm and slr's will be a thing of the past......it won't be too long before you will have a bridge camera that has dslr quality and a lens that covers every scenario.........the fz200 is already getting close to such a machine.

are presently very popular, I don't think they spell the end of the DSLR camera. I do think that the DSLR camera will become smaller due to mirrorless technology. I happen to use one of the new smaller DSLR type cameras that uses interchangeable lenses. I use my Sony NEX-6 camera with old vintage manual operated lenses and must admit that I am having fun. The bridge camera uses a zoom lens which up to now has not attained the sharpness of a prime lens used on a DSLR camera. That being said, I do think most bridge cameras do produce amazing pictures with the well designed lenses they come with when used properly. There are pros and cons on which is better, a bridge camera or DSLR camera, it comes down to which one you enjoy using the most. I happen to like using both type of cameras. Kelley (Texas) :)

WOW! Such detail. I wish my hand was that steady.

@Kelley - sorry, didn't take the pictures shown on the link. Some of my pictures are posted here (hope this works...)

@Nancy - there are a lot of shots framed and hanging around in this house. Thank you so much.

@Neil - Thanks so much. But your "bird-shot" is amazing, even if it is resized. Wonderful quality.

Think you both are on the same path. Mirrorless and interchangable lenses like Kelley's Sony NEX-6. Would be my guess for the future, too. One absolute must have for me is a viewfinder for difficult lighting conditions.
What I like on the bridge cam is the feeling of a dslr and having a ZOOM which will fit most of the needs I have. Yes, it would be nice to use ...countless accessories... but had this in the past on the analog site and used it two or three times. To much money if it is not used to earn the cash with this. (had to learn to think about this way).
To me this is only hobby and I wanna have fun and this is the most important IMHO.
