Does anyone think that a photo contest named "Haunted Places" would be of interest............

to folks on this Forum? It would be pictures of haunted houses, cemeteries, or any place reported to be haunted. Just curious if this would be of interest or not. Kelley (Texas) :)

That is a great subject Fred, go for it. Another subject , could be places, such as buildings, Ships, " that are Lost in time" so to speak, abandoned, overgrown, and such, much like your photos of deserted looking buildings...

I've got one. My folks house in Dodge City Kansas.

My folks house at 1209 2nd Ave in Dodge City Kansas has had a long history and a long list of strange happenings. The dead says it was built in 1868 but Dodge City was not Established until 1872. It was owned by Judge Preston in the 1800's when it was used as a courthouse. When we bought it in the 70's and moved in the basement, with dirt walls then, had 12 3'x3' rooms with 1 chair and a light in each. We were told they were cells to keep prisoners waiting for court. Here is a picture of the house with Jude Preston out front back in the 1800's.

One of my favorite ghost stories is when my Aunt Jane came to visit. She will not stay in this house to this day.

She came to visit and everyone was at work. My folks told her to go on in and they'd be there soon. She went in and decided she would read some in a book and sat on the living room couch. There is a lamp on the side table she turn on as it was getting dark. She read for awhile then decided to see what was on TV. She turned off the lamp light and went to the TV room but found nothing to watch. She decided to do some more reading so she when back to the couch. She tried to turn on the lamp but nothing. She looked and there was no bulb and the lamp had no palace to plug it in. When my folks got home she told them she could not get the light to come back on and they told her this light was for looks only. It has never had a bulb or an electrical socket to plug it in. My aunt swears to this day she read her book by the light of that lamp.

Here is what the house looks like today.

A contest? Maybe, but it sure would make an interesting thread and it can be added to long after a contest is over.

I appreciate the time and effort that you put into posting this ghost story...thank you! Kelley (Texas) :)

Pretty wild story. Lots of old history around that area. Fort Dodge was pretty important before the town was founded.
So not really surprised to hear of houses being built before the founding. I was in Dodge City one time when I was
pretty young. It was around 1964-65 or so. I remember going into the pseudo Long Branch Saloon that they had back
then, and probably still do.. Also saw boot hill and maybe one of the old jails. I forgot now, it's been so long.
I've also been to the old Fort Leavenworth and saw a bunch of old stuff there. We lived in Kansas in the 60's.. Wichita
from about 64-65, and Merriam from 65 to late 69.
