Does anyone post adds on Craigs list for Metal Detecting

Treasurechic

Well-known member
Im thinking of posting an add on Craigs List for my services and in hopes of finding new spots, what is the best category on the list to get the best response?

I have read about it being done. Just be very careful in your wording and the spam you will get, Beale..

Goes4ever does and I think he has good luck with it.

I'm not trying to be patronizing. From your postings , screen name, past photos, you appear to be female. Craig's list is a very anonymous venue, maybe even more anonymous than this forum. I know individuals that have posted items for sale on Craig's list, and had individuals show up on their doorsteps that I would probably escort off of my property at gunpoint. I also have had relayed to me that harassment & badgering occurs over the sale of items. At least from what I've learned it can be much more of a "Wild West" venue.

Therefore I would think long & hard about the safety issue versus possible reward, there's a lot of real whack jobs out there!

I run ads year around and I do get property to detect, but like stated alone, a lot of wierdos out there, be careful. I have not come in contact with anyone but nice homeowners who ask me to locate property pins, or something like that in exchange for detecting their yard. But I NEVER go alone, I always take a buddy. In fact my ad states that 2 people will be coming, not just me alone.

More than likely you will never have trouble, just be on your toes

Thanks for your opinions guys, I guess its best to stay away from Craigs list. My problem is unfortunately being a woman can make it even more difficult to get permission. I think people dont take me seriously at times when I ask for permission because I look like a women not a women who looks like a man(HA Ha) you know what I mean. Plus you never know whos going to open the door. I take my hobby very serious, so It can be frustrating.

why stay away? just take a buddy, I see absolutely no problem. Chances are you will never run into a craigslist wierdo. Majority of people are still normal everyday ordinary folks

Well Goes4ever gave me some hints about how he does it. I posted on Craigslist yesterday under "wanted" and "antiques" and have gotten 4 legitimate replies so far. Don't know if they'll go anywhere though. Good idea.

another ad I post under "lost and found" is this one...........feel free to use if anyone wants to:

Lost something important to you?

My friend and I have metal detectors and would like to assist you find your lost ring, piece of jewelry or keys, at no cost to you at all. All we ask is that you let us detect the rest of your yard.

We live in (your town goes here), and would be willing to travel a small distance to help you out.

If you or anyone else you know has something near and dear to your heart and can point us in the general location to where you think it was lost at, we would love to help you find it.

looking forward to hearing from you.

Great idea for helping others out while swinging for fun. I just put an ad on, thanks for the template Goes4ever! Hopefully some good leads come from it HH.

I have done this with some great success...I currently have about 15+ sites that I can now hunt on a regular basis....I list in the for sale section under the "wanted" heading...my listing goes as follows:

Title of my posting: OLD HOMES, FARM FIELDS HOMESTEADS TO METAL DETECT

and the body of my ad:
I am looking for older properties, farms, fields, homesites to metal detect on....I am first and formost interested the local history, or just history in general.....I am an adult with years of experience metal detecting, and would leave your property better than when I arrived....I haul out all trash that I dig, and refill all of the holes I dig...The holes are only big enough to retrieve the item, then is quickly refilled. You never know what you will find buried under your feet....old coins, guns, toys, items you had lost, the list goes on and on.....Some of my finds include tokens, coins, buttons, dog tags, Civil War finds, Revolutionary War finds, and so on....So, if you don't mind me detecting your old property, or even watching while I do it....that would be great...I am also willing to share some of what I find with the landowner....Property, fields and farms I am looking for should be no newer than the '50s....
Thanks for your time, and I hope to hear from you! Let's dig some history

It also helps to post some pics of your finds....Good luck, and let me know how it works out!
