Maybe they close for Spring Break like the schools?

Could be all off on a week-long cruise celebrating an outstanding business year of sales in 2014?

Might have a busy schedule with a week of interviewing job applicants to prepare for a spring and summer sales explosion?

There could be new foreign investors taking over who don't speak English so they don't answer the phone?

Could be loading everything on a truck for a final shipment to the only dealer who might be selling most of the Tesoro's, out of some big Florida Dealership?

Realizing the newest accessory interest is in "after-market search coils," they are just tooling-up to make only search coils for all the major detector brands who actually have been and are producing modern metal detectors?

There's a flu epidemic and all half-dozen employees are sick?

Who knows? There are all kinds of things that could be going on and it has been very, very quiet for quite some time from anyone at the Tesoro company who knows how to read and can following the Internet and Forums, and then post ANY constructive answers or lend any assistance to questions pertaining to them, their products, and what might be going on. No MDI's for about 5 years. No new products for a while. No public, consumer information, even when the discussions have been popular on what likely is the most active Tesoro Forum in existence.

And I would be very surprised if 'Detectojer's' forum topic brings any direct response from any current Tesoro employee. I hope it will happen to clear the air, but I would be surprised.

I finally did get through to them. They said as fare as they know the phone system was working fine. It is interesting that they just coast along and try not to compete in the market.

When you make the best analog metal detectors in the world, why bother?

Well, thats good !...thanks for the feedback Detectojer...as you were gentlemen!, smoke 'em if you got 'em!..:smoke:...

Speculation is a fun but a generally inaccurate and unprofitable hobby, a fellow would think in one of the most Primary buying times of the year, (NOW) a mfg. would try to keep in close contact with the spenders a bit...or at least a few key market movers such as Monte?....sort of try to reel them in, or keep them on the line at least...try to keep the nets tended and in the current if possible...unless a guy has so many fish on the bank they dont want any more...the big Run is short, Springtime Suckers and Fall Chinooks....a few Winter Run Steelheads can keep things interesting too I guess....A fellow cant feed a family on Summertime bluegills...evidently Tesoro has some full nets we were unaware were even set? Thats cool...a guy cant be all, "Hey look at me!" all the time...attracts too many game wardens and bears..Retro Marketing saves the day!

what makes you say that Tesoro is trying not to compete in the market. I've always thought they were one of the top competitors.

This is not really a pressing matter. More important is, are we practicing good retrieval habits and showing goodwill to our fellow man in the field. If not ANY detector mfg. will no longer be of use to any detectorist.

I'll second that! I love my Tesoro detectors!

Like I've said before. Nothing out there is as sensitive to the smallies like a Tesoro. Tesoro was my very first detector and will be my last.

VERY wrong!

I just happen to like several Tesoro models a LOT, and I used to like a lot of what the Tesoro Company did. It's been some time now without an MDI to help promote their products and their company, and that's a shame. It was one of my favorite publications from any detector manufacturer, be them a big detector maker or small.

I liked the Company when they had some good programs in place to help their Tesoro Dealer base and keep good control on major discounting.

I liked the Tesoro Dealer Discount program they used to have.

I liked Tesoro's Distributor (Re-Shipper) program they one had.

I liked the fact that we used to see many more detector Dealers carrying the Tesoro brand.

We all liked it more when there were more Tesoro ads, more direct-from-the-factory comments or answers and involvement.

We all liked it more when we saw new detectors models come out on a more regular or more frequent bases.

Let's face it, we haven't seen much in the way of new detector models over the last dozen years or more, and we haven't seen any new product development or modernization, either. We hear very, very little from the Tesoro Company, either. Nobody seems to monitor and respond to Tesoro Forum activity when many direct questions have surfaced. They have just been distant and seem to be drifting farther away. It's not like "Monte doesn't like the Tesoro Company" but you get more of a feeling like "the Tesoro Company doesn't like it's loyal followers and users."

This past three months I have spent working with a couple of excellent performing detectors, so good that they have made me bump my personal detectors from my #1 All Purpose detector spot. Matter of fact, I have been clearing house of every excess detector I own the past four or five months. One choice XLT and one 'as new' Outlaw to go and I'm done. Out of all the brand s and models on the market, other than the Nokta FORS CoRe and Makro Racer, there are only two models I now want to maintain in my arsenal, and one different brand model I want to acquire.

I have the 6" Concentric for the Bandido II µMAX, one of my all-time favorite Tesoro models, but some friends and family are not into the sport enough to understand Ground Balance, so there is one more all-time Tesoro favorite I want to add. I have an extra new 6" Concentric search coil ready for an additional Tesoro and just need to find a clean, as new condition Silver Sabre µMAX. Not the Silver µMAX, the much better Silver SABRE microMAX. I'll either find one on trade for my XLT or Outlaw, or I'll sell them and have the funds to buy a Silver Sabre microMAX, but that will be another Tesoro in my arsenal.

I have held a strong respect for the Tesoro models that have served me well for almost 33 years now, and I have liked them for their excellent ability to handle a dense iron nail infested site. The best rival I have found, and the only rival models, that beats the Tesoro's, is the Racer and Coin & Relic. But I want to have one more Tesoro on hand so that two models in my arsenal will also be good for me or friends and family to use.

It would be that way is I didn't like the Tesoro Company or their products. I do, but life is full of realities, and one of them is when a company appears to be in an obvious tough spot. I've been around and/or worked for some who once were, but are now gone. As I concluded in my most, I doubt if we will hear anything directly from the company (and we haven't yet), but I hold out hope that somehow they will manage to get back on their feet and give us more of their quality and desired models. That is, bring back former favorites .... or engineer up a seriously new and desired model.

detectormanUK, I probably shouldn't even waste my time, but I'm not going to sit by quietly while one of the gurus of this forum gets slammed.

You ask how many businesses Monte has owned and managed. Let me ask you this: how much have you contributed to this forum in your 2 years on it? Can you find a single one of Monte's 5,000+ posts that isn't more informative than any of your 6 posts?

I have used multiple Tesoro models and still have a Compadre in my arsenal. I am a Tesoro fan and have been for years but I don't wear rose colored glasses and I can't argue with Monte's current assessment of the company.

But regardless of whether you agree with Monte or not, with all he's contributed to this forum and the hobby of metal detecting over the years, calling him a troll is beyond the pale.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

haha, others here have used "troll" on other threads. i do not think it is right either and childish. these forums are for discussions. some just can not take the least little negative thing said about tesoro for any reason. there are a few on the other forums also. i kinda wish it was like facebook. where you could block certain members. so you dont have to see what they write and they cant see yours either. this is a very good forum. but there is one on here i dont even bother reading his threads anymore. no matter how good the title is. nothing wrong with what monte said. that is what forums are about.

Well said!!! Reading all the threads and posts about Tesoro makes me think of myself in some ways. I am 53 years old, been a dairy farmer all my life, my Dad was as proud as a person could be about our farm, he worked hard as all of us did and he dreamed of the day when he could retire and do some traveling wth my Mom. Well he passed away alot earlier than he should of, he just turned 56 when he passed. My Mom & I ran the farm for 3 years by ourselves with no help at all, don't know how we did it now that I think back. My brother left his factory job and started working on the farm with us it made things alot easier. This was back in 1985, we kept the farm going until 2013 and slowly started getting behind on our bills, we never caught up the price of milk went down and the price of grain and machinery went up. We decided to sell our cows and our land, my Mom still works for the neighbor raising his calves and I have a factory job. Sometimes I think that my Dad would roll over in his grave if he knew we lost the farm, but I bet he would be proud of us for keeping it going as long as we did. It was a long very stressful last couple of years seeing the farm go down the tubes in front of our nose and we worked as hard or harder than we ever did. Most of the people I graduated school with and other friends I have made over the year are either retired or are retiring soon. I worked on the farm long enough to retire but don't have a dime to my name and had to start all over at a factory job (which I do enjoy). Sorry to ramble on but hopefully some of you that have to say some things about Tesoro that have no more idea what's going on with them than I do will stop and think that things happen beyond our control at times, we should stay as positive in life as we can, they might be having some hard times or maybe they are stronger than ever, we will have to see. Having detectors is a hobby for us not life & death. I have used Tesoro detectors for many years and enjoyed them more than anything. If Tesoro went out of business tomorrow (which I hope they don't) I would not say anything negative about them but would be proud of what they have accomplished and proud to have been able to have the opportunity to own and use their products. Best of luck to everyone at the Tesoro factory and hats of to you all.

I hope they hang in there. I want Rusty Henry and that lovely lady with the beautiful voice who answers the phone to continue to have enjoyable employment. Oh yes, the detectors are nice too!
