Hi this machine is great! I was in a wooded erea and locked onto a old kettle, I found this item next to it. Does anyone know what it is? How old? I was told around the 1900's,any idea on the value? Thanks.

n/t

It's a glass dome, the coin was to give it a size comparison. I think it looks like a old shot glass but not shure.

Looks like a fuel bowl from a tractor.

Use to have glass view tops on old boiling pot lids... Maybe ???

It.s a sediment bowl that is part of a fuel system on a gasoline tractor. It had a brass screen at the top. There was a clamp called a bail that would hold the glass bowl to a base. It would catch the dirt in the fuel and hold it in the glass bowl until you cleaned it out. It can still be purchased at farm equipment parts stores. It still could be 75 to 80 years old.

This was my guess

If it was a sediment or water strainer for a tactor it would be a bit larger. This one appears to be very small, just bigger than a quarter. Maybe 1.5 inches across. Most of the ones I have seen are about 2 to 3 inches in diameter and 2 to 4 inches tall with a groove externally in the bottom of the bowl for the bail to snap into. I would venture this is more like a glass percolating top for a coffee pot.

Quite a few small engines use a sediment bowl as well. Not all had a notched or depressed bottom, and were just held by a cup-shaped tightener on the bottom of the bail. This particular one I linked is only 1 1/2" across x1 1/4" high, and although this one does have a notch, shows they did come this small.
