hello all, i found this small brass rough cast piece at an old homesite [1850's]. top pic shows a screw or rivet hole. the 2nd pic shows the side view. it's almost 2" long and about 3/4" wide, and heavy for it's size. any help would be appreciated! it's a little bent too. hh,

Mine came from a house site that dates a bit older and up to the war. I'll see if I can post a picture. Never tried it yet so cross your fingers!

wow, it's just like mine... it's kinda crude made too. i see theres some scribed lines on yours, mine has 'em too. and theyr'e deep. i hope somebody out there knows what they are... thanks

Mine has a channel in the backside leading me to think it may have been some sort of hinge receiver. Hutch or dresser hinge? Anxious to hear what others have to say as well. This site seemed to date from the late 1700s to the mid1800s. As you said, they're pretty crudely made. Early manufacture?
