hello again all, i also found this small thin brass piece at the 1850's homesite. looks like a small piece of iron strip riveted on the inside. i've got like 6 of these, but don't have a clue as to what they are or do. some of the other pieces have fabric attached to them. theyr'e about 1and a half in. long, and 3/4 in. wide. again, any help is appreciated! hh,

I found something similar and when I found it, there were about five of them together. I dont know if yours is the same but one of my pieces had a small piece of an old ruler still attached to it. So, my guess is its pieces of an old folding type ruler. The closest example I could find is this one on ebay. I hope this helps
