Does anyone know the reason why the G2 is so tuff on batteries:shrug:

Its not hard on batteries, its just that a 9v batt is really 6 very small 1&1/2 volt batteries connected in series. A 9v batt just dosen't have a lot of oomph. If it used 6 AA (9volts) they would last a couple of seasons.

What sort of time are you getting from one battery?

Gaz.

Thats exactly what i got in my last session with a duracell, not as good as 4AA's but its a small price to pay for such a nice detector :)

4 AA's cost more? prob not hey about the same?, its easy battery change but no muckin around with lots a little ones :clapping: i think its about standard for all the 1 battery 9V machines time wise.

I have not timed how long a battery last in my G-2 but I think it is right in line with the others above. You will get about 20% less if you don't use headphones most manufacturers advise. Hope you do not have any problems. HH :teknetics::minelab:

I'm about 15 hrs as well. I have more than one machine using 9v batteries so I bought a few rechargeable batteries. They can be had off the big auction site from China for a few bucks each or 3-4 times that locally. Those batteries along with a $20 charging station (charges all types) have been a worthwhile investment.

i am going to buy some of these but before i do can someone like Dave J or Dave J :)confirm they are ok?

2 x True 9V Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery

This Vapex 9V rechargeable battery solves problems with voltage sensitive appliances that struggle with traditional 7 cell 9 volt rechargeables that only supply 8.4V. This 8 cell battery provides 9.6V which is perfect for devices such as recording equipment and microphones etc.

Everything we manufacture will run just fine on NiMH rechargeables. However ya gotta remember a couple things about rechargeables.

1. They don't have anything like the capacity of a good quality alkaline, so they run out of juice a lot faster. Probably 5 to 7 hours in a GB/G2.

2. They have a flat discharge curve, and when they die it's like they were pushed off a cliff. You don't get an hour's warning like with an alkaline-- more like it's fine one minute and dead the next.

geese that was quick Dave thanks for the info, i am good with the 5 to 7 and carry a few charged ones with me just getting sick of the $6 a hit hunting every day just about it adds up  just hope they don't drop out as i am about to wave over a nice big gold ring

i have some sanyo AA's and they are great but they don't make them in 9V bugga  they last for years and well there just good if anyone needs AA's there called eneloop hope i can say that :poke: i am sick that :poke: thing just makes me laugh so hard :lmfao: well back to it i guess :clapping:

oh one question if i may? does the higher mAh mean lasts longer in machine?

at the risk of sounding like i am talking to myself which i do anyway well we all do don't we just when its out loud people look at me funny i suspect they are thinking wish i could do that and be OK with it?

i forgot we live in the information age and had a quick look at the mAh and am thinking from what i read so far the higher the better as in time lasting in the machine, sorry if we have done this before? i must have been looking out the window at the girls doing PE :bouncy:

i know why i am weird today listening to Devo taking me back to my school days now i am giving away my age :poke:

I admit that the gb2 does draw more power from batteries than some other older detectors. But I am sure this is because it is doing far more than older detectors.
MAybe it is time for a more advanced battery that has 9v power and more capacity.

The ones I got from the bay are 350mah going for about $12 for 4 including shipping. They're working great for me.

Just get some good NiMH batteries. In the long run you will save a boatload of money if you detect on a regular basis. Life of a decent single 9v NiMh is about 6-8 hours in your machine. But they can be recharged at anytime and do not develop a memory like the old NiCads. And they do not have to be fully discharged before charging like NiCads. Buying disposable 9v batteries is horribly expensive. Look on Am*zon. They have a excellent selection of batteries at the best prices.

thanks Terra and fellow posters.

i have 5 machines that use 9V and AA's so bit the bullet and brought chargers and battery's so i can fill them all cost about 150 bucks or so but that's not much considering i would spend that much in less than 6 months so if they last 2 years i am way in front plus i only have to buy battery's next time not chargers so will be much much cheaper next time, also brought a charger that claims to recharge normal throw away alkalies they had sold like 450 of them and no one had complained so maybe it works? we will see? would be good though as i have plenty of old ones layin around.

Do you have a link for them ?

four double AA's is just 6 volts.....not 9 or even 7
