Does anyone know if the I.D. meter works independently of the audio I.D.? :)

Sorry, I couldn't resist the urge. :poke:

worked independently of each other, and it appeared to be the same with the MXT, but I could not find the information in the owner's manual. The problem is that I am old school and do not rely on the meter as much as most folks. Kelley (Texas) :)

There really is no Audio ID per-say. The MXT does not have tones for each target type. C&J mode uses a combo of all metal and discrimination audio, Relic mode is similar to C&J with differences in how the audio is reported. In normal relic search mode you here the grunt for discriminated targets(iron) and the all metal audio as a desirable target(bullets buttons buckles etc). Prospecting mode has no discrimination so you get all metal audio only. Now with that said over time you can learn the slight difference in target sound and learn to dig or not dig. I still glance at the VDI number an look very close at VDI confidence blocks to help me decide to dig or not. Numbers for the MXT VDI are converted to the same VDI numbers as the 6.6 KHZ XLT numbers by the microprocessor software. The 14 KHZ freq of the MXT skews the VDI numbers higher and bunches them up near the +88-94 end of the VDI wheel. Which makes it more difficult to properly ID targets. So to keep every thing on a even scale the software converts MXT VDI to XLT VDI so that every body has the same VDI #s for the same target. So no audio ID is not tied to Meter ID.
Hope this helps

It appears that I used a poor term by using "audio ID." Thank goodness that Monte knew what I was asking. What I was trying to find out is does the audio work independently of the meter I.D? For example, if the discrimination is set to discriminate out pull tabs, and the coil passes over a pull tab, there will be no audio signal or response, but does it still show pull tab on the meter? Kelley (Texas) :)

Thats's exactly right. In C&J the audio will null out momentarily when over rejected items. The more I've used my MXT the better I've become at hearing subtle differences in the tone even though it's a single tone machine for all practical purposes.

Keep us informed as to how this works out. I could be interested in that mod.

Can you tell us a little bit about the Mod?, # of tones and price, so forth?

Just sent my MXT to the guy Larry 130.00 will know more once I get the machine back, don't expect it till January. Have talked to him for a couple of hours his main thing is modding gold machines.
Boosts the sens and puts a tone control on it. It makes a HUGE difference, the tone control is 2 levels and on both you have a full range of low 2 hi. The cool thing is that it does not invade the circuit board just jumps diodes.

Is the purpose of this mod to increase your ability to distinguish better between gold & a pull tab? I too would like an update when you get yours back.
