i listened to the webcast radio show from the other night and Moe was the guest and talked a lot about the Deus but one thing he mentioned was that he could get the Deus audio in his hearing aids.. or at least that's what i THOUGHT he said...
i have hearing aids and have lost one once while taking off the headphones to talk to someone. it would be great if i could get the tones in directly instead of using headphones. not only for that reason but because the hearing aids produce lower tones that i can hear that the tones were higher and i can't hear them. I'm not explaing that right... i can't hear high tones, lost that range shooting artillery in Nam without any hearing protection ( thanks Marine Corps). so anyway, i can't hear the high tones but the aids take the range that i can't hear and push it to a range that i can hear, so i don't hear it as a high tone but i can hear it. so with headphones it still miss the high tones. i set all the tones in the xp to a lower range but i squashes the tones down so that i have less of a difference between the tones.
so to make a long story even longer :pinnochio i want to see if Moe can help me to see if i really can get the detector tones into my hearing aids...

thanks for the number, it worked and i talked to Moe. What a great guy. he told me how to get the audio from the Deus to my hearing aids so as soon as the snow melts i will be giving it a try.

HUH??

Martygene,

I have been detecting on and off for almost 30 years and have been working with hearing instruments for 8 years now - There is currently a lot of interest in Bluetooth connectivity to hearing aids directly from the audio signal, and it's not just limited to us Deus users!!! I too come from an 0811 arty background and a little of my highs are gone as well, which will only get worse down the road. The company I work for just released wireless hearing aids and a wireless controller is also coming in April. I know many people that would benefit from this (and also the hearing aids LOL) and trust me, there are many looking for a solution to this problem. Any detector that has wireless headphones should in theory be able to connect to a set of aids - that's the current obstacle. Between adjusting the aids and the Deus together, one could tune full tones, for example, to compress its 100-800Hz tones into a balanced (or biased depending on the type and severity of loss) response that almost any hearing-impaired user could benefit from. I think there needs to be a wireless relay that would communicate between the aids and coil - maybe something you could have in a back pocket.

CZ et al, 0811 eh CZ? Welcome to the club. Thanks for the great response. What Joe told me was to use a small eighth inch audio cable from the remote to a device called a Com Pilot which is a Bluetooth wireless device that communicates with the hearing aids. I will give this a try but I like the remote on the handle of the detector because I very often switch programs to check on the target which would mean that I have the audio cable going from the remote to the compilot hanging around my neck then wireless from the ComPilot to the aids. That means a wire from the detector to me. It might be better audio for me but I don't like having that wire hanging around getting in the way of everything.. if one liked to have the remote in your shirt pocket that would be like being wireless and might work for some. Maybe if we bring this up to XP they could do bluetooth some day.

i did it and it works pretty well. i would have to use it some more to get used to it but the tones sound pretty good. i just don't like having the remote connected to the ComPilot with a wire. Hopefully one day we can get the hearing aids connected to the remote without wires. .

comPilot = Phonak brand. I worked with Phonak technology for 3 years up to the end of 2013 but no longer. They have pretty reliable wireless platfroms, as well as totally waterproof aids such as the Naida S line but they are pricey in most cases.

I work for another company now that is based in PA whose hearing aids are MUCH clearer than any Phonaks I ever worked with, yet we are just releasing our wireless tech.

Have you ever heard of Phonak's myPilot? It's basically a comPilot with more adjustability in which you may be able to raise or adjust the detector's tones via the controller. However, you are still WIRED to the Deus controller. Have a feeling that connecting the aids totally wirelessly to the controller or coil - I think XP would want some kind of control over that (rightfully so). For now, there's at least one relay necessary (comPilot) to interface the aids and Deus. This is a great subject though - if XP could make it possible to connect wirelessly to HAs then imagine the possibilities...

CZ.. what brand aids are you working with? are they as expensive as Phonak.? i got mine from the VA so unless i want to pay full retail i probably would have to stay with the phonaks. thanks for all the info.
i looked on the internet about the MyPilot... looks interesting but i am not sure how it works or just what it does. if you have any more insight on that it would be cool but i will continue to see what i can find on the net.

Maybe wearing the remote on the arm like I think CZ wears.
Then the extra wire would be less of a problem.
I have tinnitus and some hearing loss, but haven't gone the route of the aids yet.
So when this all gets worked out it may be a solution to help my TID on those deep ones.

Hunting Dog: i know my hearing wasn't the best but i didn't realize how bad it was until i got the hearing aids. now i can't do without them. i highly recommend getting them ASAP. you won't believe what you're missing.

I hear that... lol
