going to a smaller coil in a trash laden site? I will be using a Tesoro Bandido II uMax, replacing the original 8" brown coil with a 4" coil. I just did an air test and it appears to be approximately a 50% drop in depth. I do realize that there is the possible halo factor associated with the target that is in the soil.
Is there any standard rule of thumb on how much depth you will lose by going to the smaller coil?
The site that I will be detecting is an old Boy Scout Camp dating back to the early 1940's and was last used in the late 1990's. There are lots of iron trash, some pull tabs too! I want to try the smaller coil because I feel that some good items are possibly being masked by the trash items.
One last question, do you think that I should be using the Tesoro 7" coil instead of the 4" coil in dealing with the masking affect of the trash items?
Appreciate any advice given, please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="">
