Does Anyone Hunt in Field-2 Mode ..?

Well-known member
I've read in this forum of many many treasures found in Park-1. Park-2. and Field-1 modes. But I have VERY rarely read of treasure hunters pulling up wonderful finds in Field-2 Mode. In fact, now that I think about it,... I can't remember ever reading of treasures being found in Field-2.
Does anyone out there hunt allot in Field-2 Mode..? Any success...? What Areas..?

I have used Park 2 and Field 2 for gold prospecting with an Equinox 600 and as an alternate target check mode on the 800 when I really want to investigate a target with something other than the Gold modes. Field 2 with a few tweaks works really well in 2 tone with the iron tone break and default discrimination pattern changed to make iron be from -2 or -3 down to -9. Often in very mineralized dirt, small gold nuggets 2 or 3" deep will give a negative number target ID. After removing a little dirt the target ID numbers change to positive if the target really is small gold or lead. So using 2 tones makes -3, or -2, and -1 a high tone and a target to investigate. Using 2 tones in Field 2 also makes iron easy to hear in contrast to the high tone non-ferrous targets.

I have also relic hunted in Field 2 in 2 or 5 tones. I still lower the default iron discrimination to -1 unless there are coal cinders in the area.

I hunt in field 2 90% of the time other than beach modes it works real well here in Ct for me..

Central Alabama here, red clay mineralized dirt, mineralized black dirt and I am blessed with tons of extra iron like...everywhere.
I have used beach 2, I enjoy gold 2 which is closer and more familiar to me as all metal than any other set-up.
Most times I use 5 tones, low disc, Fe low, (switch to Fe2 here and there but not sure it matters around here), recovery about mid-range and Field 2.
I get great and mostly stable hits in Field 2, it deals with my masking issues better than Park 1or 2 by far and I have been very successful using it.
If you said I had to choose between park settings or field settings and could keep only one and had to drop the other no question Park would go and I would have no regrets.
Found silver jewelry, silver coins and even a gold ring under tough conditions using that mode so until I find something better I will continue to do that.

I too like Mark hunt almost exclusively in field 2. We post our settings a lot along with finds. It handles heavy trash/iron well and loves the small stuff. Field 2 is also my go to mode hunting in the UK along with fresh water hunting.

Your reply was interesting, but without making all of the modifications to field 2 mode, how does it work just in factory default mode..? Maybe I'll detect a little in Field 2 this weekend.

It works just fine in factory default mode as long as you aren't looking for targets in the 0,+1, +2 range to produce a target response. If you are expecting those to respond, they will be discriminated out in default Field 2.

When living in coastal NJ, I hunted the fields and woods exclusively in field 2, sens 23-25, 5 tones, no advanced settings in low mineralized soil.
Since moving to the St Augustine, FL area, it's all beach 1, 2 hunting, until the weather cools and I can get a grasp as to where to land hunt as these counties, St Johns & Duval appear to different and more stringent md laws than liberal N.J. IMO.
