if there is a Tall Boys lower shaft for the Excal?? I just recently put a straight shaft on the Excal and now I kinda have to bend a little to keep that coil to the ground.

I had the same problem, I'm 6.3", I put on a longer bottom shaft before I even used it because I know the problems that length cause with other detectors that I have used.

So, what I did is use a middle sized Otto lower shaft that I have from gold prospecting. It is also lighter than the standard. You have to drill a hole on top or bottom of your upper shaft to where you want that perticular shaft, as it's not compatible for an excalibur upper shaft. That is extreemely difficult as it's very hard to measure exactly where you have to drill the hole four your shaft to clip into place, you just have to do it by eye and keep trying and hopefully you don't run out of room. Then you have to put plastic grommets on the side of your shaft so you can tighten your coil properly. You should be able to get these from any detecting store that sells gold detectors OR;

you can get the anderson shaft that everyone else's raving about: http://www.andersondetectorshafts.com/2.html
They look really good!

That's why I need a longer lower shaft, I mounted my Excal on one of those over and under beauties. I really like the look and balance and they are well built, but......it's about 4" shorter from the grip to end of it, thus my coil is 4" closer to me!!! Why would they do that??

I had this guy make me one I'm 6'3" too. http://www.proscoops.com/
I purchased the travel model and used it and found me slumping over. I asked him to make me another lower unit a bit longer and he had shipped and on my doorstep in three days.
His scoops are great too. I purchased one with a stainless steel lip, slices through sand like hot knife in butter. used all summer and no bending or metal fatigue, unlike my previous one, two weeks of hunting and the thing bent too much.
I hope this helps.

best to email one of the minelab dealers here. Rick(ND) is who I get my stuff from, he can let you know if minelab makes one. I know they make one for the Explorer as Ive got one.

So it's still short after fitting on the anderson shaft? Ok, then just get the otto shaft and follow my instructions in my first post.You might as well get the longest one. Here is how mine looks with the middle sized one on:

Why does this website censor the name A N D E R S O N ?

Dick Schultz of Minelab replied to my e-mail saying they didn't make a longer lower shaft and suggested the same after-market maker where I bought may oven and under for one. The maker of the over and under shaft did reply and said they could make me a shaft of any size. They also suggested that I move the grip and armcup back, which will do the trick, if it doesn't mess with the balance. I'll be trying that this evening when I get back home.
Hmmm. I also only see a pic of a stock S shaft Excal and the other pic doesn't show. Hmmmm...

It's the longer lower shaft that is in the pic, just trying to give some perspective as to what it might look like withg a longer lower shaft although the pic doesn't really do that sorry.

That's good that they can make you a custom shaft, sounds like the go.
