I do snorkeling. I have some good equipment and enjoy it. I could use it where it is too deep for my MDer. Also I could use it inconspicuously.
When I move back to WV. I know of a lot of old swimming holes. One is on a private island. People would pay to park their cars on the island and swim on the north shore. It would get so crowded they would have to turn people away. The water is pretty cold. The river bottom is all river rock. Hands shrink and rings slide off. I am sure there are rings in between the rocks. When gold falls under a rock, it stays there. They quit using it in the early 60's. The island is private, but the river is not. Some swimming holes are very remote. The one in the picture is 3 miles down a dirt road. It is about 15 feet deep. It is small and very crowded in the summer time. They like to dive off the rocks into it.
