Does anybody actually hunt the surf in S. Ca?

I've been detecting for quite awhile and frankly I've never seen anybody out in the surf in S. Ca accept at the edge of the surf. I waded out one time on a fluke and found a nice class ring in the trough that is produced where the waves break. The surf was light but and I still didn't like getting pounded by it. However, if someone can give me a few examples of how hunting in the surf is more productive than just hunting the wet sand in S. Ca, I may give it another go or maybe we could meet up somewhere so you could show me the ropes.

May the detector Gods shine their light on you.

i wait for the minus tides like this week.. i can go in the wet sand most of this week where normally u would be wading knee deep or better in some areas without getting pounded, wet, or cold. it's a hobby for me I, I try to not get carried away if u know what i mean.( i'm not getting a wet suit & snorkel lol ) but i would imagine there is good stuff further in where people get pounded by waves (breaking chains etc.) wish i could show u some ropes but i just walk the beach & swing untill it beeps.. if it reads midway or better on meter i dig it no matter what #s i get, I'm a little more selective at 6" or less. ( have a quattro) but i think most machines start to lose their minds afer about 6 ".... they know something is there but not sure of what it is.... so i dig. besides it's pretty easy at the beach. good luck to u.
