i use PROTIDES.COM as my tide info it says nothing about the tide going out this far out

Normal winter low tide + strong north wind overnight = very low tide.

Happens from time to time, but mostly in the wintertime.

GL&HH Friend,

Where I am The wind was blowing hard west. REALLY HARD. That kept the tide out much further than normal. been fishing long enough to understand the tides. Very new to detecting.
I think that was you I met on the beach the other day. I actually met you in the parking lot I was using a PI.

Off shore winds are usually the culprit for extremely low tides especially when coinciding with low tide. The fast passing of a weather front or depression could result in a meteorologic tsunami. Sea levels can rise and fall several feet within a few minutes.

For those that are interested: the surface of the oceans are not level. The mass of oceanic water follow the deviations of gravitational force of the earth itself. The earths' mass and thereby the gravitational force is variable. This is called the geoid. For instance in the Pacific a stable depression in the sea surface occurs of several hundred feet above the Mariana trough without causing a flow. The depression is several thousand miles across. Cool huh!.
