I would say it is likely to be some type of track and field medal.

ok thanks i have looked all over the internet my son was working on an old house here in maine and when he tore a wall out this came falling out the house is dated from the early 1800 but thank you for the info i will try to do a google search on track and field medals

yes it says italy very small on the bottom back

Many times there is a small 925 which would indicate silver. Italy would be where it was made. But any company could have sold it!
