Does a 10,5" DD coil on the X-Terra give greater depth than a standard one?

Paul...I have been using the 10.5 DD 7.5KHz coil for the past 11 months. I have been hunting the Cloyd Mt. battle field which is located in Southwest Virginia. This battle field is on private property and has been hunted heavily over the past 20 yrs. In the past year I have recovered 79 CW bullets from this site. Most of the bullets I have recovered have come from the 10" to 11" depth. These bullets were missed by others and found using the X-Terra-70 and the above described coil. There is no question in my mind that the coil goes deeper than the standard one. TomB

Many folks report greater depths with the 10.5 DD coils, as compared to the 9-inch concentrics. And I have no doubt that may be true for their types of soil. Personally, I find the 9-inch concentrics provide better depth in the moderately mineralized soil where I hunt. By design, a concentric coil will hunt deeper than a DD coil (of comparable size) in moderate soil conditions. The question therefore, is when to use a concentric and when is the DD a better choice. I have no "proof" for my theory, other than field use. But I've found that if my properly adjusted GB is at a setting of 28 or less, the DD coil is the better choice. If, on the other hand, my X-70 is properly GB'd at 29 or higher, the concentric is the better choice. The higher the setting, the better the concentric works. And the "worse" the soil, the more you will benefit from a DD. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks Randy and all. TomB, wow 79 CW bullets from one site in one year is alot! I do not have the 10.5" MF DD yet for my X-70. When you(and others) get those outstanding depths from the X-70, beating other detectors on what they missed. Especially for relics and CW bullets. Are you using All Metal in C & J Mode or Prospecting Mode??

I do not live anywhere near a battle site(maybe there are some ancient Indian ones that I am unaware of, as this town where I live in is surrounded by an Indian Reservation. The Indians here about 150 years ago did not die from bullets but from diseases brought from Europe). If I did(or I should do this anyway in a test regardless when this still frozen ground here is thawed) I would like to try my Musketeer Advantage with a CoilTek 15" WOT DD and compare it in a test and see if it would beat my X-70 with a 10.5" MF DD on depth on a bullet or silver coin?? Any takers on a guess??

Thanks guys for replying. I began to doubt whether or not it's myth pushed by the dealers. Now I see it's not and the DD Coil is better.
It's very interesting what relics do you like to find.We did not have the civil war. But last summer I recovered a huge pack of cartridges dated 1915-1916. They were from WWI. But I think this sometimes should be considered as trash because you cannot differ (mine is the Fisher 1236 now) deep cartridges from older coins of the 18th century. Believe me, it's very annoying!

We have the folks who like to hunt for WWII relics. Though it may be illegal and very dangerous. We call them 'those who have iron sickness', cause there are a lot of people among them taking to home not only cartridge cases of different sizes but even used cans (anchovy) from German trenches. Well, there's no accounting for taste. To dig in trash... it's not for me! I am definitely an old coin hunter.

Sorry for the off-top.

Randy is right on as usual. I should have added that I hunt in highly mineralized soil. Though I would include a pic of the recover bullets. TomB

In my soil condition 10-20 gb i had much more stable machine
which allowed me to run more sens with the 10.5 dd 7.5 freq
